Always have a treat to offer your Tiel wen you are wanting to work with it. The bird has to learn to trust you, if there is no trust then there will be no taming it down. You have stay working with it everyday and have patience. It wont become tame over night.
If it likes to bite your hand when you offer for it to step up, then try using a small perch, reinforce the word "step up" This is a command that you will always need to use whenever you want the bird to get on your hand. There are many other things you can do to teach your bird that I can instruct for you, but right now your primary concern is to get the bird to not be afraid and to respect you. Once you have got to the point then you are welcome to contact me and i can help you with other information.

haha, looks like shelby got to it before I did! http://www.cockatootrainer.com/timidness/ has instructions for taming your bird, and this method has worked almost every time for me. Don't try that perch training because the bites really don't hurt that much and the perch can scare the bird and cause it to trust you even less! I only recommend perch training for the larger birds because they can do real damage to your fingers! If it bites, just GENTLY pinch its beak. Don't twist the beak or turn the head at all. This is a way to teach the bird in a manner that isn't aggressive or painful, but is annoying so the bird pays attention. If you have any problems, feel free to email me through the training site!

Your bird uses it's tongue to explore new things like your finger or new toys. Hold your hand palm down and place a small sprig of millet between your fingers make the bird reach for the millet. He will peck at the millet and over come his fear of your hand. Gradually you can turn your palm up and place a smaller piece of millet in the palm of your hand and tell the bird to step up. Once the bird learns to step up you can get the bird to step up on a stick you can get the bird to come out in a closed room for further training. Make sure there are no plants or other things like chocolate left around
that will make the bird sick or injure the bird. Give your bird a special place to roost inside and out side of his cage where he can observe the family and you and maybe watch some tv when you are not home. It won't be long before you are best buddies.

never fear, Nichola is here!
(I'm sorry that was really sad)
To tame a cockatiel you need to spend time on trying to get it out of the cage first. To do this, you will need it's favourite treat (usually greenstuff). encourage it out with the treat. If you do this say twice a day, it will eventually take the bait.
Once it is out of the cage, teach it the "step up" command. This is where you put your finger under it's tummy and say "up". when it steps up onto your finger, reward it with a sunflower seed and talk happily to it like how you would say "good boy" to a dog.
Once you have this mastered, just spend time with it when you are watching tv, etc. It will grow to love you. I hope that I have helped, good luck!! :-D

I have had cockatiel's my whole life. I currently have a three month old bird. He hated being touched but now he loves it. You have to take their head and spray water on them when they bite you. Just like a drop on their head and they will stop biting. You also have to handle them daily so they train.

Start by spending as much time with your bird as you can. Just allow him to be in the same room with you. Do not make abrubpt movements or loud noises. Talk to him. Stand close to his cage and just talk to him. Grandually introduce your hand into the cage. Do NOT reach for him. Just let your hand rest inside the cage so that your bird can become accustomed to it. This my take several tries. Once he no longer freaks when you put your hand in the cage, hold a small spare perch in your hand. Again do NOT reach for him, let him become accustomed to the perch. When he is comfortable with both your hand and the perch, gently touch his chest just above his feet with the perch. He will instinctively step up. Please be patient -- it will take awhile for him to trust you. Good Luck.

Aww my mom has those! The nice ones live inside the house. Like in your living room they learn to be around people. They like the radio leave it on when you go out, not loud. Just so they hear the talking. = ( Clip the wings so he cant fly away.
