My female cat has just has kittens about 2 months ago. Shes not in heat, at least not that I can tell. Shes not acting different at all. She doesn't even reacct when he tryies to mount her. I have to punish him. He jumps on her and does the usual of biting the neck and so on, but hes really hurting her. She meows in pain and I have to pull him off her. I dont know understand why he keeps doing it. Ive even punished him and he continues to do it. Im afriad hes going to hurt her bad. Hes a very large cat....and shes a very very small female. Shes fragile. Why is he doing this? what can I do to make him stop?

Sounds like nature doing whats natural. Spay or neuter your pets, this is Bob Barker, signing off.

From my experience, the boys usually know that a girl is in heat -- or going into heat -- before I do. Your female is right on schedule to go into heat again. Do you want more kittens? This soon? You need to keep them apart until they are either "fixed" or you are prepared for them to breed again. And it may already be too late.

A male can be fertile for 8 weeks after neuter, by the way.

If she in no longer nursing, she indeed could be going back into heat. I urge you to get her spayed, and soon.

But if not in heat, this could be simply rough wrestling. And since he is larger, he is asserting alpha dominance. If you are punishing him, I hope it is by no tougher punishment than a water bottle squirt. That is usually very effective.

Your female cat will need extra nutrition, so her food should contain extra calories. Even kitten food for her is not out of the question.

But please, if you are not a breeder, have her spayed, and do it quickly. Otherwise, you will find yourself with another set of kittens, and there already is a huge oversupply now.

Well, has he fathered any litters with her, if so, there is your answer. She will come in heat again VERY soon and he knows it. Unless you can find a way to keep them separated in a area (not a crate with holes or bars) he can't get out of to get to her, he will continue to pressure her! Nothing will stop him (its nature and instinct), so "punishing" him is not going to work, Unless you get them BOTH "fixed" you will have many litters in a row and the Mommy cat will get very sick after a while from the drain of the kittens on her system. There are many shelters and vet who offer low cost spay/neutering.

Cats do not have regular heat cycles like dogs. They are what are called induced ovulators--they get bred then they ovulated and become pregnant. What this means is that female cats are ready to breed almost any time. A female can get pregnant again right after giving birth. Your male is only doing what his hormones by nature are telling him to do...he's not a bad cat. You need to have them altered ASAP!

Sounds like your male cat is in rut most of the time. Have him castrated ASAP. That should calm him down, reduce the tendency to splooge (spray) and save wear and tear on your female. While you're at it, plan on having your female taken care of, unless you plan on breeding as a business. It will also eliminate heats and calm her down. Long term effects on both genders is longer life and better temperament. B.

You can stop this by neutering your pets!! It is not rocket science!! You cannot punish a cat for doing what comes naturally....you are the problem..not your cat. Be a responsible owner and get your cats fixed!!

Cats don't really respond to punishment the way dogs do. Cat's don't yearn for your approval. I suggest you get your male cat neutered? Or your female cat spayed?

nature made your male cat that way, and you are accomplishing nothing by punishing him. until you have them both spayed and neutered, it's a good idea to keep them away from each other.
