Sorry for your loss ~ my own mother passed away about 8 years ago, in our home. When my ex would be at my parents' house, he used to say he always felt like he was being watched, even when no one else was around. Also, I could sometimes hear footsteps coming down the hallway, that sounded just like my mother's (yea, *that* was creepy, heh).
Anyway... It's not a demon. I believe that a person's spirit has energy in this world, even after they die, and sometimes that energy (or some of it) lingers around whatever it's attracted to (be it a house or a person or an object). Her soul is at peace, but perhaps she's just hangin' around to keep an eye out for you (so to speak, hehe) ;D

I guess I would need more details to give you more feedback. I do know I have felt spirits of more than one variety close to me before. The good ones are spirits of those who have died, they are almost always your own relatives or ancestors, and they generally come to visit briefly, usually at important occasions or else to provide comfort or a message of some kind. The bad ones are spirits who have never had a physical body, and they chose to follow Satan before the world began. If you run into those, they are more likely to leave you with an "icky" feeling of fear, hopelessness. or even anger or violence. I have felt them in houses where people were disobeying on a regular basis commandments of God or committing crimes in secret. My guess, and this is strictly a guess, is that your mother's spirit may have come back to let you know indirectly that she is still alive in another realm of existence, and that she is mindful of you. At some point in time, after the resurrection, those spirits of the people who have died and accepted the Gospel of Jesus Christ will be resurrected with their perfected bodies, this time never to die again. The evil spirits who have followed Satan during their entire existence will be bound and not permitted to have influence over us during the Millennial Reign of Jesus Christ. Have a happy day, and I send you a gummy bear.

There are some who say ghosts are not sentient remnants of the departed, nor angels or demons, but are instead a temporal recording "implanted" in an area by intense emotion and that "replays" periodically, like a videotape. This theory holds that ghosts have no thoughts, feelings, emotions, memories or purpose but are mindlessly created automatons. This is neither comforting to those seeking resolution to grief via talking to dead loved ones, or scientifically valid, but I offer it for consideration.

O.K. I am a Catholic so I have different beliefs than you. Yes we believe in heaven and hell but we also believe in a grey area inbetween where most people go when they pass away and carry on the work they need to do before they are pure enough to enter heaven. Maybe this is where your Mom is and she probably knows what is going on with you and sometimes comes back into the earthly realm to help you or someone else that needs her help. One day she will just carry on, on her way and not feel the need to revisit your house anymore.

it is a very complicated question and it needs a very complicated answer, but I'll try to make it lamen.
When someone dies, they don't go straight to heaven. True Christ did say to the thief that he would go with him to paradise, but in John 20:17 after the death of Christ he appeared to Mary and told her not to touch him cause he hadn't ascended to his Father. So the thief went to paradise with Christ after death but didn't go with him to his Father because Christ hadn't even gone yet.
In Luke 16:19-31, The rich man and Lazarus, they both die and one is in Abrahams bosom, or in comfort and the other in flames, or pain, guilt. In this place the two saw each other because the rich man wanted Lazarus to cool his tongue with some water. This place where the two went after they died wasn't heaven and it wasn't hell. Maybe hell for some since there is guilt (or whatever the flames represent.) But I think that the paradise that Jesus told to the Theif was this place in the bosom of Abraham since it wasn't the place with his Father or Heaven. And the other place is some other holding period for those who were wicked or proud like the rich man. I don't think these two places are eternal damnation or heaven because really we won't know where we are going until after the Final Judgement or Judgement Day. But we do know through the Bible that those who are good will go to Paradise and those who are wicked will go to the other.
Now to answer your question, since people see sightings of peaceful spirits and also sightings of spirits that are restless and do harmful things at times. I think these two places can be here on Earth, until the day we all resurrect and the Lord Jesus comes a second time. And then we are judged for our acts and then put in our place that we deserve.
Hope it makes sense. If your mom was a good person, don't worry, shes drinking lemonade on a lawn chair with 70 degree F weather. :)

Those are demons (fallen angels) that are masking themselves as if they were your mom.
For Christians that die:
(2 Cor 5:8 KJV) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
For those dieing without Jesus as their Lord and Savior:
The other place. Dead men are not walking around the face of the earth right now.

If someone is dead, but you can see or hear them after their death, it is because you are seeing demons and evil spirits who want to play tricks on you, confuse you, or get you to do something for them. Demons can take on the images and voices of people. If there really is some kind of ghost or spirit taking on your mother's image, then get a Christian to rebuke whatever evil spirit is trying to haunt your house so you can have peace.

Heaven, hell and nothing in between is a really close-minded idea, imho. There's so much we don't understand. Too many people are witness to things like ghosts and ufos. To say there's nothing in between is just evidence of an empty head.

I believe when Satan fell and took 1/3 of the angels with him, that these spirits on the earth are them. The Bible says the devil roams the earth and demons are in dry places.
