I live in a town where the nearest grocery store is about 45 minutes away. What is the best way to keep ice cream frozen on the way home?! I'm really craving strawberry ice cream but I fear it will just be slush when it gets home. Help is appreciated!

We used to live in the middle of nowhere and we had the same problem with things like ice cream, milk, and meat. The result? Keeping an ice chest in our car at all times. When we purchased something we knew we needed to keep cold or frozen, we also purchased a bag of ice at the same time. Then we'd put the ice and the food in the ice chest right out in the parking lot. When we got home, it may have softened a bit, but it was 10x's better than if it wouldn't have been in the ice chest with the ice.

Hi Abbey,

I bought a Kold to Go! bag @ Cub Foods by where the ice cream is kept, also have seen @ Rainbow. This is a ready-to-go thermal bag with snap closure. No ice required, re-usable & washable. I take this to the lake & on picnics it's great will keep food cold or hot for up to 3 hours, I paid like $2.99 at the beginning of summer. I have put 6 squares of Blue Bunny orange dream ice cream(vanilla with orange sherbert-yummo) in the bag cause I like it & the store is always out. A case of Coke 24 cans but then carry from the bottom. Yes I have a large freezer. Have a good day. :0)

The Best Way for you to do that is to get a small Styrofoam cooler. (Which is available at your grocery store for very cheap.) and then get a small chunk of dry ice. (That is sold at many different places. Also for a cheap price! Try calling around. A bait/tackle/fishing store is a good place to start.) Then Wrap the Styrofoam in newspaper and set in the bottom of the Styrofoam cooler. Just remember not to touch the dry ice which can cause instant frostbite. The dry ice will last a few days so you can go back to the store a few more times.

Sugar retains it from forming sturdy. each now and then your sugar is purely too little, OR there is too plenty water interior the icecream. you may have genuine double cream interior the ice cream- heavy cream, and egg yolks. in case you shop commencing the freezer door at living house, finally the temperature retains dropping by making use of a few ranges every time, then has to flow backtrack lower back, so water drops form close to the door of the freezer each tiem the temp is going warmer, and that they form into water , ie. ice, once you close up the door lower back. .hence previous ice cream interior the freezer gets crystal ice drops in it, additionally why it extremely is not sturdy to maintain coffee interior the frreezer- the beans shop getting drops of condensation in them, and that they rot. Your freezer may well be too chilly. turn it up somewhat.

This is a problem! Well if you buy other items with the icecream then you could put it in the center of all the others. if not bring a blanket of some sort and rap the container in it.
