Put it in your bedroom. Why? First off, there's some really new boxes with bright colours, funky design. I have a light purple round one in my bedroom. Secondly, keeping it in your room ensures that you'll keep it spanking clean. Another option it to put it in a closet and remove the closet door and add a curtain. A friend did this with a kitchen closet and it worked nicely. She used the upper part for a pantry and down below was kitty's litter box.

We've always tucked our litter box in the bathroom. We've been lucky enough that we either had a gap large enough between the toilet and sink or an open area under the sink itself. You could also use a spare room/office, or even a spare bathroom, if available. Our current place, though small, has a minuscule half bath that the cats have all to themselves.
Another great option would be to toilet train them. Granted, this works best if you have more than one toilet so you're not always moving the tray to use the toilet yourself, but it does work. Barring an aged cat with arthritis or other mobility issues, there are kits out there that even hold heavy cats. I'm doing this right now actually, and both of them are doing wonderfully. Try http://www.citikitty.com for a good, sturdy, one-time use kit, or http://litterkwitter.com for a reusable set-up.

i once came upon this same dillema... first i put it in another bedroom but i noticed that litter was getting all over the carpet, and i didnt like it in the bathroom because i would get ltter on my feet when goin in and out of showe, so....
i actually place the box into a closet, had a cat toy that hung from the knob so all she had to do was pull on it with her teeth and the door would open. also its easy to place a deoderizer of some kind in there and no smell as long as you scoop every day.
secondly i put a small thing of chicken wire on the ground before the box so when she hopped out she immediatly scratched her feet and all the litter came off her paws. Easy clean up. plus she seemed to like it...?
hope that;ll help

I live in a 3 bedroom apartment. I put my two litterboxes in my hallway. You can put the litterboxes in the bathroom, that is if you don't have a hallway. Some where that is private and quiet. Not in a traffic area or where the cats eat. The problem with bathroom, the cats get the gravel on the floor. The gravel sticks to your feet.

Keep the litter box in a secluded spot. Cats like a bit of privacy when using the loo. Put it in your loo, behind the throne or something in that vein. For goodness sake just change the litter every other day or so. Eviction notice in the post if you don't.

We had ours in the spare bathroom. It had a laundry room closet inside of it, so we put the box in there. It had to be scooped two times a day, so the whole end of the Apartment wouldn't smell like kitty. I hated it.

Today they make furniture designed just for your litter box. Just put in for a search and see what you find. I took an old toy box and cut a hole in the side of it for mine.

the bathroom, if the weather is nice I would put it out on the balcony and leave the door open a crack, enough for the cat to get in and out of.

I'm not sure how small your apartment is but if you have two showers then I would say put it in the spare shower. That's what I do with mine.
If not then anywhere secluded with hard wood or tiled floor.
