Some places actually sprinkle sugar on their fries, instead of salt or in addition to the salt. It just unnecessarily adds calories in my opinion. I have heard that McDonald's does it. Also Wing Stop, if you've got one in your area. Other than that, the potatoes themselves don't have sugar, but they are carbohydrates, and once in your digestive system, the body converts the starch to sugar. So in effect, french fries are nothing but sugar! (and maybe a litte grease and fat)

YES. The restaurant chains that produce sugar laden crappy foods do this. They coat the fries with sugar. They do it because we are addited to sugar, fries taste better (to most people), the sugar browns on the surface of the fry.

putting french fries in sugar water, then letting them drain before frying is a trick some places used to get a nice brown color on the fries.

If its overdone they taste sweet which is not good.

Well, french fries are full of starch, which turns to glucose, which is pretty much the same as sugar.

I haven't heard that but with all the additives they use to prepare them it is possible.
I prefer to make my own.
