The Lord never once commanded anyone to be baptized. He commanded His disciples to go and baptize. Should a follower of Christ identify themselves in the manner, You bet without delay! He wouldn't have commanded it done if He didn't think it was important. What does He command? He commanded us to believe. In that faith He recreates us as His children, giving us Life... So MUST you be baptized, No.. Should you be... YES! Jim

To refuse baptism is to deny a covenant between God and His own. No OT Jew would think of letting someone join the faith and not receive the mark of circumcision. Why should baptism be any different?

Baptism is necessary to salvation, because without it we cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven.
John 3:3-5 "Jesus answered and said to him: Amen, amen, I say to thee, unless a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith to him: How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born again? Jesus answered: Amen, amen, I say to thee, unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Ghost, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."
Matthew 28:19 "Going therefore, teach ye all nations: baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost."
Acts 2:38-39 "But Peter said to them: Do penance: and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of your sins. And you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is to you and to your children and to all that are far off, whomsoever the Lord our God shall call."

Baptism is an act of disobedience and if you are not getting one on purpose then you are sinning. Dont wait to long to be baptised, do it as soon as possible.
