I know this sounds silly. But I really love this guy. We've only been together a few months, we are both in our 30's. When we are together we can talk for hours, but since he left for training for Iraq, it seems like when he calls I can't think of anything to talk about. I love to talk to him on the phone, I just go braindead and can't think of anything to say. This is his second trip to Iraq. I have never dated a service man before him. Any good talking topics would be appreciated :)

he probably calls just to hear your voice so maybe you could talk about your day of course but in a different way....when your not on the phone try and see beauty and humor in small things and tell him about that.
maybe you could read to him.

Talk about yourself or anything non military related.
My husband is in the service as well, and he just wants to know about anything and everything I do, say or hear on a day to day basis. He can't escape from where the military has him at that exact moment, so talking about where he is stuck is not a top priority.
I actually don't get phone calls, only e mail communication while he is on patrol. I send him news articles daily.
Does your boyfriend like sports? Go to Yahoo news or another news site and read him new stuff that he may not know yet. My husband is also an avid gamer so while he was gone I was able to tell him about PS3 sales, Game release dates and a few that have been delayed.
I also like to remind my husband of certain things the family is doing. Upcoming birthdays, holiday plans, family days are always nice for him to know about.

I had been dating my bf for 9 months when he got deployed. When he called I'd usually ask him what he'd been up to that day, how he was feeling, if he's heard anything new about the mission or anything like that. I'd also tell him about my day, and tried NEVER to complain about anything. Just be supportive and try to keep things interesting. Joke around if you can. It's hard, I know, but you'll get through it if it's meant to be. We're still together 4 years later.

Stuff that is going on back home, avoid questions about what he is doing, dont ask him about what is going on in Iraq or what you saw on the news. Also talk to him about how much you miss him and can't wait till he gets home.
Keep him updated on every little thing that goes on back home, seriously, if he still feels like he isnt missing his friends, he will do better.

talk about what's going on over here. Like on the news. Talk about your family, ask about his and what they are up to. It's the best I have, and don't forget to mention that you miss him.
