My ex-boyfriend cheated on me after being together for almost 3 years. He and I have been friends for 18 years. Most of our friends are friends with both of us and our families are both close friends. He is 24 and I am 18. I have tried to keep things civil..its just not working... If so how are you able too? any ideas or suggestions??

He has had a girl he just met call me and tell me that she just slept with him. I DONT want to get back together with him at all. I just want to be able to keep things civil. He still has hopes that I am going to move to the same city that he is going to college becuase we had planned on moving in together before we broke up. He still thinks we're going to get back together-- I say its not going to happen!

My girlfriend and I recently broke up. It is one of those "breaks" only intended to be long term. The break is mutual. We both are going through some very tough times right now. We have agreed to keep a friendship going. We are still getting along very well. Everything is working out greatly.

So, in other words, yes, it is possible to remain friends after a break up. I will tell you, though, that it is VERY difficult. I still feel everything for her that I have ever felt. I have to work very hard to control myself.

As far as keeping things "civil," you have to just be yourselves. Try to forget about everything that went on between you guys. That is going to be difficult. The friendship is going to be difficult at first.

Best of luck

Jaimie it certainly is very possible. Although for a little while it may be somewhat difficult. But I know from experience that my ex-wife and I remain good friends to this day (but it took some time to realize we still could be friends) and would do anything to help each other if needed. We are both remarried and both our partners get along with us just well too, my current wife actually gives ex a hug when they see each other. Life is too short to lose friends who were once lovers.

Texting lets you control the tone and establish what kind of conversation you want to have. Learn here https://tr.im/zNG6L
This is probably the most important part. With texting, you can stop and think about what you want to say to your ex at each step of the way. Instead of reacting emotionally, you can take your time, figure out the right thing to say (I’ll give you most of it), and be strategic with your ex without saying something that you’ll regret.

Yes, but don't fool yourself and think that it will remain strickly platonic til the end. Because, it's human nature and the laws of attraction won't let it.

If someone cheats on you they have no respect for you so why would you want to be friends with them?
