I just recently got an email from dog trust saying that Dublin City Council has recently banned 11 breeds of dog (including Rottweilers, Bull Terriers and German Shepherds) from all their properties, including houses, flats and estates. Existing tenants are being given a chance to rehome their animals, but if alternative accommodation can't be found, then the dogs will be destroyed. It also seems likely that these breeds will be banned from public parks - which means dog owners living in private accommodation will also be affected. PLEASE go to dogs trust and sign the petion PLEASE

I have a comment for Rachel Way -
Even though some Chihuahua's may be aggressive, Chihuahuas can not take a life of a human or another dog and are not used as weapons.

If you seen a unleashed Chihuahua coming down the road, I don't think you'd be too frightened. If you seen one of the other banned breeds unleashed, I'm sure you'd feel differently.

What an absolutely ridiculous piece of legislation. Whilst I fully appreciate some breeds need to be kept under control at all times in public places, this should never be an excuse for the gross generalisation and witch-hunt which this clearly is.

This also becomes something of a civil liberties issue. Why are dog owners being penalised because they happen to be living in local authority properties? Are we then to suppose that owners of certain breeds, who happen to live in private properties, become less of a threat?

I shall certainly sign the petition. Although I live in London and have two Yorkies, I feel it my duty, as an animal lover, to support these tenants in Dublin. They must not be treated as outcasts or criminals merely through an act of ignorance and hysteria by their council.

Shame on them! ... so it is... !!!

The only breed that has been breed to fight is the Pitt Bull I've never had a problem with Rotties or Shepherds only their owners !! I can see having laws to protect the public but this is going to far. What happened to muzzling your dog if it bites or laws that make responsible owners contain their animals but a full blown ban ridiculous!! Are the dogs in the UK any different than the dogs in Canada or is it the owners!! They are talking about banning Pitt Bulls here but so many people have been attacked or killed here with no reason other than these dogs can go off without cause!!

In some European countries you have to go on a course on how to own and handle these particular breeds.Only on completion of the course are you deemed fit and given a licence. It is expensive but i for one am fed up with irresponsible dog owners,as my 2 year old was nearly attacked 2 days ago.
This situation is heartbreaking, rehome your dog or have it destroyed is disgraceful,i'm gonna sign

oh my goodness. some people are stupid. i signed and brought up the point that its not the breed, its the irresponsible owners. and if they are considering destorying these amazing creatures because of the bad cousins they are associated with per say.... than half of this country should be destroyed, look at all the lazy no lifes in america that suck off the tax dollars we work for and contribute negative numbers to our economy?? theres alot more important things cities should worry about, like gun control. and dublin city council...what kind of dogs does your city have on the police squad?? that are only viscious on commmand, and a loving amazing little booger any other time??? jesus save this world!!

already signed as seen this article on Rottweilersonline. I hope all the concerned breed web sites have this pettion on their sites, if not why not, for heavens sake why must we have these knee jerk reactions from the people who we elected to look after us not smother us,there will be so many things soon you are not allowed to do or have, that it would be easier to have laws saying what you can do, come on responsible dog owners, vote for this or it could be your council next and your local park that you pay council tax for and you cant use with your dog!

Tell the politicians to deal with the real problem, the irresponsible owners of these breeds.

They don't wanna do that because their afraid of being called racist and all that BS! It's whites to blame as well, and I'm sure other races.

It seems the black race is into it the most though (fighting them) so these politicians aren't going to want to "offend" anyone on this serious issue.

Get used to loosing more rights over all these races that fight these dogs. Our Govt. can't even get national security under control, you think their gonna have any common sense on this issue, don't hold your breath.

not exactly sure where Dublin is,(i live in Wisconsin) but, i signed the petition. its not right, i know so many nice dogs, that wouldn't hurt a fly, and i cant imagine something like that happening. and as many people will say, any dog breed can be an amazing dog when put in the right hands, it all depends on the owner.

Good luck in stopping this!!! i hope my signature helped!!

i hate those stupid breed ristrictions...there stupid! not ALL GSDs (and other breeds) are bad i mean they should check how a specific dog acts NOT the whole breed based on maybe 100 dogs...WTF??? chihauhaus can be JUST as aggressive as any other dog...so can most small dogs...w/e

PomMom
um yeah they can have u ever seen wut any dog can do 2 a kitten another puppy even a baby...any dog any where can take the life or seriously injure a newborn if left unsupervised. i do think that dogs not under the control of their handler should be delt with but NEVER harmed in the process! my dogs are under my COMPLETE control and i dont care about any law...and yes this is a threat, if ANY1 comes up my drive way to take and KILL my dogs...i WILL shoot them and face the consequences of my actions...

um no i wouldn't cuz i know how to control a dog...all u have to do is assert urself...most large (REAL) dog owners know that...

iluvtorofl (w/e the heck that means)
u sed the word in the PAST! point exactly y dont they just give us a chance to breed it out of them...i mean that was in THE PAST!!!

i'm a great fan of Staffies - i think of they are alluring canines, and make astonishing companions as an entire. we've all heard this arguement previously; the way it particularly is the ignorant vendors who wreck the attractiveness of the breed. i do no longer think of it particularly is a arguable assertion. collectively as i've got continually appeared on banning breeds as being based on the fake effect of the canines, you have even have been given to look on the ban from the perpespective of banning those canines from the persons who wreck the attractiveness. in case you are able to no longer very own a pit, you are able to no longer combat a pit, meaning you are able to no longer practice a pit to be agressive. collectively as the belief or perhaps the act of the ban is devestating for some vendors (i've got had a pit myself), you're saving the canines from a terrible destiny, and saving the breed from this style of homeowners who supply the canines the undesirable rap. ideally, i might choose to make certain the AKC etc be waiting to authorize staffie breeders, and ban something. this way you would be waiting to sell to blame breeding and to blame puppy vendors, save the breed from the attractiveness as a "Pit Bull", and nevertheless enable people who could be a to blame proprietor to savor the breed as they could desire to be enjoyed.

This has already taken place in certain areas of the states. Here, we have city councils or county boards that can do this for small areas within a state or even a community. It had to be done in some areas because of multiple maulings by pits or staffies and their mixes. I know there are several other dogs listed on the ordinances in areas like rotties and even a few places shepherds are added along with other "exotic" fighting dogs. Honestly, these dogs should not be in the hands of the general public. It is a matter of public safety. I mean, you wouldn't want members of the general public carrying around nuclear weapons, would you? or assault rifles? These are strong dangerous animals that have been used in the past as assault weapons. It is a matter of public safety not personal freedom.
