I'm taking Citalopram which is generic for Celexa right now and have been for about a few weeks. but I also have a little pain in my back. I want to start Trazodone or Amitriptyline because they have been known to help with pain magagment. I have a slight form of OCD and I heard that Trazodone or Amitriptyline could be useful for OCD and certine kinds of pain.

If I were to pick between Trazodone and Amitriptyline, which one would be better to help relieving OCD?

This is something that really needs to be discussed between you and your doctor. I know that Trazodone is very rarely used now days as there are much more effective medications with less side-effects. I am not familiar with Amitrityline. I think you should leave it to your doctor and not narrow your options to two. Zoloft has been highly effective in treating my OCD and has very few side-effects. Additionally, Paxil is also used in treating Anxiety disorders, which includes OCD.

I took Amitriptyline was migraine prevention and it did great for pain relief too. I no longer need it, so I don't take it any longer. I did have weight gain with it though.

I now take Trazodone to help with my depression and sleep deprivation. It sure doesn't help with the pain but does help with everything else. No bad side effects either.

I am not sure about OCD; I think I am borderline and the amitriptyline sure didn't help that.

Trazadone makes you very sleepy and Celexa has varying results. Paxil can work but has side effects that can be upseting. (nightmares, sexual side effects) Have you talked about taking Prozac? It comes in a genreic form now and is pretty amzing in the patients I have seen. Just make sure that if you are going to take Prozac that you start on a very low dose andgradually increase it....5mg....to 10mg....to 15 mg..etc. Otherwise you will have severe side effects!! Good luck!
