3 answers so far. Insults and sarcasm are different breeds. Patronizing is only retaliation for a misinterpretation of being wronged. And sarcasm has a moustache and a big tongue to jam down your throat.

Yes, unfortunately there are always posters who think they are being sarcastic but forget that they can't show that simply by posting. Sarcasm doesn't translate well into written type without any skill, and they seem surprised when people respond to literally what they type rather than what the poster was carrying around in their head but failed to express in written form.

Then they act like they've been wronged or the rest of the world is stupid.

The onus for communication is on the writer and speaker, not upon the listener.

I think it's sardonic wit that makes you pucker up.
