Hi

You don't take out car insurance in someone elses name, thats fraud. Your friend obviously had their own insurance policy for the vehicle in question, and I would guess that you were possibly named on the policy as a second driver.

You now need to arrange your own insurance and have the car registered in your own name. You will need to fill in the log book and send it off the have the name changed to your own.

Regards

You can ask the insurance company who insures the vehicle to transfer the insurance over - but they won't allow the no claims bonus to be transferred and you might face some awkward questions like "Why was the insurance in your friend's name when it is your car". You would probably need permission from the executors as the unexpired premium is an asset to your friend's estate.

Otherwise you will have to take out a new insurance in your name - the insurance company may start asking questions like "Since you owned this car since .... how come you don't have any no claims bonus?" - at least I would as a broker!

You've made your bed - now lie in it!

You can't. Insurance goes with vehicles, not drivers. If your 'friend' was the keeper or your vehicle, it isn't your vehicle, it belonged to your friend. What you were doing was fraud, I suppose your 'friend' got better rates or something. But it has backfired now, the car in tied up in the 'friend's' estate and will be disposed of according to either a will or the local laws.

If your friend was the registered keeper of the vehicle, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the vehicle is NOT yours as far as the law is concerned.

Since your friend has passed away, it will be disposed of according to his or her will. Unless they left it to you in their will, it will go to whomever their estate is passed to.

If he or she died intestate it will be disposed of according to the law. As a "friend" you won't be entitled to the vehicle or any other part of their estate.

Why you would allow someone else to register your vehicle as their own escapes me but you've learned a valuable lesson here. Don't repeat the mistake again.

hmm, dificult. who now is the executor of his estate? if they can call the company, they can change the details. if it was paid monthly by direct debit, the insurance will probably be cancelled now, anyway. you say the car is in your name, (on the log book). you can take out a policy in your name.

You will have to make a fresh application to your insurers for motor insurance.
