I would have paid and then concentrated on finding better friends. She doesn't sound worth losing any sleep over, unless of course it was a mistake and she was very apologetic. Sometimes the advice I give people about their so called friends sounds harsh, but the thing is when you stop spending time with people who just take and don't give, it really does free up your time and energy for someone better.

That's pretty mean. If I were you I would go up to this "friend" and tell them " Hey, you know that time we went to Olive Garden for my birthday? Well, are you aware that I paid for the both of us? Wasn't it my birthday dinner? The birthday person isn't supposed to do that. Just because you didn't have any money doesn't mean you should tell me when we were paying! You could've told me on the way." That's what I would do. I'm bot to sure about you, but I would be very angry at that "friend". I hope this helped. Because hearing these kind of things makes me feel sorry for the person that it happened to. I would've ceartanly have gotten angry at this "friend"!

OUCH it is possible however she HONESTLY forgot her money my friend and i went to lunch and i told her i would pay i had $20 AND put it in my bible pouch i could not find it she paid and then during lunch i found it in the very corner and i gave her the whole $20 because of the inconvience i was so embarrassed so she may either 1 bring you olive garden take out or 2 cook you something because she maybe just humiliated and upset as you are and feels really really embarrassed that she let you down anyway happy birthday and maybe just maybe she did NOT do it on purpose and did not mean to hurt your feelings HUGS and take care

At that point, I don't know that you can do anything. Next time, just say, oh we don't have to do that, I don't have the money this week.
If you are then told that dinner is on her, then fine, go - but otherwise I would stay away from going places with her.
Happy Birthday anyway!

She offered to take you to dinner, meaning she would pay as your birthday present.
She sounds she has no class and no conscience, maybe she is using people around her on a regular basis.
If you want to continue calling her a friend is up to you but maybe its time to raise your standards of friendships

Was she very apologetic? If so, then maybe she really meant to have money with her, and you can ask her politely to pay you back.
If she wasn't, then it sound's like she just used you to get a free dinner, even though it was your birthday.

Chalk it up to experience and make sure your friends have money before you accept another birthday dinner outing.

You learned a very valuable lesson in human nature.
Next time someone suggests something, establish the ground rules before you end up in the same pickle.
As for your friend, you have two choices
Forgive her or forget her.
I recommend forgiving her (this time)
