Depression can be caused by a chemical imbalance. If this is the case, it will usually come back over and over. If you have had constant recurring bouts of depression, even when there is nothing to be depressed over, you may need to consider long term medication. Good Luck!

The answer is yes and no.

Depression tends to run in families. And if you've had it, there is a tendency for it to happen again.

BUT...that doesn't mean you are helpless! In fact, speaking personally, I have worked to learn how to adjust my thinking so that I am usually a very optimistic person. I'm happy, pretty confident, and I consider myself to be successful.

However...I did have Post Partum Depression. Not my fault. The hormones went wild. I needed Prozac until they were all calm again. One of my kids developed a terrible illness and I was stressed over it for a solid year; at the end of the year I was depressed from the never-ending 24/7 worries. Again, I got some meds and I also made changes in my life to relieve the burdens, and my happy self bounced back.

So yes, once you've had depression it indicates that it will want to return at times. But you are not at its mercy! You just have to be determined to learn how to take care of yourself so that life is good.

a traumatic event deserves a depressed reaction, that is normal. But if you truly change your outlook and and add to your coping skills then the temporary depression suffered as the result of an ensuing trauma will be short lived. One thing you haven't changed, you keep living elsewhere, you now worry about the future, no doubt you spent a lot of time worrying about the past too, both are fruitless uses of energy. Live in the now.

Not really. But a person needs to get therapy and stay on the medication, if this is not done, then it throws your thinking into a un-balanced pattern. When a person is on meds ,its helping to keep your thinking on a even-kell,(balanced). You can recover from depression, but it takes work and lots of effort., to make this happen. Yes depression is something to worry about. But if a person is commited to go through thepary and takes the meds it soon will become 2nd nature to deal with it.
This therapy needs to be professional, or someone that is certificatified throught the state or a licensed professional counsler.

Yes, depression can come back to people who have overcome it once before. They are more prone to recurrences .That is why it is important to continue treatment even after feeling better.

yes it more than likely will come back if it has happened before because something that happens later might triger it. I always get depressed around my birth day because something bad happened then.
