Traditionally, a Relish try was to stimulate the appetite before the guests sat down to a meal, the key was that most things on a proper relish tray were either pickeled or brined, the salty/vinegary taste making the person hungry and preparing the palet for the main meal......Usually, here's what I put on my relish tray at the holidays:

Marinated Mushrooms
Black Olives
Green Stuffed Olives
Gerkins (small sweet or dill pickels)
Marinated Artichoke hears, halved
Celery Sticks
Carrot Sticks
Sweet Cherry Peppers

Plenty of napkins and toothpicks and you're all set......a lot of people here are confusing a crudite plate (raw veggies) for a relish tray........Enjoy and I'm sure that you'll get the relish tray right for your reunion.......

Relish tray is pickled and canned things.Olives-black and green,pickles-sweet(bread and butter, sweet gherkins, sweet mix)and sour pickles like dill.Maybe some pickled beets or okra.
A veggie platter includes cut up veggie and dip-a lot more work.
If your family told you to bring relish tray it sounds like they gave you an easy thing to bring.

go to your nearest grocery and order a "relish tray" for the reunion. And if there's no cheese on it then buy a square of Philadelphia creme cheese and a box of crackers.

It consists of things like carrot sticks, celery sticks (you know, diet food). Actually it's not that thrilling, that's why I suggested bringing some crackers too and cheese (or dip).

It's basically just a veggie tray. Carrots, radishes, celery, cauliflower, broccoli, tomatoes, sugar snap peas. Sometimes I've seen people but olives and pickles on the tray also.

Hubby just walked in with sushi, yep he sure did I am coming home for the holidays! Yippee! brr I know it will be cold but it is the bee hive state for me for a while. I am dressing warm. I will share sushi if you share your relish tray, Debby!

Pickles, radishes, olives, that kind of stuff.
Or you could do a tray of cut up veggies, like celery/carrots broccoli and cauliflower.
