I'm not sure if she really meant that, but what I suggest is closely watching your poodle so that she doesn't really do anything to it.

Also, you might want to talk to your mom to see why she is stressed. If she is stressed because of the dogs, try to convince, negotiate with her, and gain her trust that it's going to be alright with dogs in the house as long as you and your siblings take care of them well. If she's stressed about something else, you should probably try to make her feel better by helping around with the house or just talking it out with her. I hope this helps!

Well hon....we don't know your mom so it would be impossible for anyone to say but from the sounds of it your little sister either needs to keep it outdoors (with proper care) or you all need to find it another home. It's not good for the dog to be hated in such a way, it's not good for your mom to stress out over the dog if she's already stressed, and it's certainly not a good situation for you or your little sister. So sometimes the hard choices are the best ones.

Are you and your little sister doing all you can to help your mom around the house? Do you guys do all the care for the dog? (if your old enough). She said it was "disgusting" maybe it needs a bath??? Can you help by grooming it every day?

There are no easy answers on this one hon, wish u the best.

Think about things that you have said or thought when you were stressed out. I doubt your mom is really thinking about having the dog put to sleep. She may have been thinking about that at that second, we ALL think silly things at one time or another. It's okay, she was just letting off steam. I don't care how mature you are, you will say something silly. I just don't think she realized someone was taking her seriously. She has three children and two dogs that I know of, she does not sound like a woman that would deliberately hurt anything. When she gets stressed out why don't you ask her if there is something you can do to help? I bet she can use a break.

Your mom sounds stressed, and as much as I'd like to say abolutely she didn't have "dog-icide" on her mind when she said that, no one can say for sure. No one likes to live with dog messes and unruly (noisy) behavior. Are you and your sister doing everything you can to clean up after and otherwise take care of your creatures? Does Mom work a 40+ hour week and then come home to the extra work of maintaining, cleaning up after, and feeding your pets? Do you give your pets enough exercise outside the house? Even if she didn't follow through with her threat, you may some day soon hear her telling you to find the puppies another home, unless you can make things more pleasant for her to live with the pets in her house.

I don't know. Is your mom usually a level-headed calm person, or is she prone to temper tantrums?

Either way, I'd keep the dogs out of the way while she's home. What is it about dogs that disgusts her? Is it something you can fix? Maybe giving them baths? Maybe the poodle needs grooming?

If she says anything like that again, I'd look for a new home for your dogs immediately. You love them, but you don't want them put to sleep, so give them away to a good home before she has the opportunity to kill them.

Tough situation, girls. Keep those dogs quiet and out of sight. Even the dog stuff, like bowls and food--out of sight.

Take care,
Debbie TX mom

Your mother is stressed for sure, but should not be saying things like that to her children. She is the one that permitted the dogs to be in your house in the first place. I feel sorry for you and your siblings and for the dogs. Your mom is not being very nice right now, and I am sorry for that. It is not a good envirnonment for the dogs or for you kids. Hang in there, and I hope it gets better. I am sorry.

To your little sister??? Your mom can't legally put your sister to sleep, but I really think you and your sister need to take more care of your dogs and spare your mom so much work.

Seriously, take care of your dogs so that they aren't a burden to your mother, she sounds as if she has enough to do already.

i don't think so. i mean, my mom used to threaten me to clean up after and take care of my dog when we first got him. and she never meant it. i think it's mostly stress. just try watching over the dog and you shouldn't have any problems.
