Well, you dingleberry, your cat has WORMS.
Those little worms you see are segmented, which means they are made up of little sections, and each section if it breaks off (and they break off quite easily) can become another full-grown worm if it is ingested by the proper host. So if your kitty-cat sits on a chair in the livingroom and a little section breaks off onto the chair, and then later you are sitting in the chair eating some popcorn, and you drop a piece onto the chair, and the segment clings to it, and you grab the piece of popcorn and eat it -- Guess what YOU get?
Don't punish your cat for having worms. They are very easy to get. But you need to de-worm her. The best way is to take her to the vet, and let him give her something. Because if she has them coming out of her behind, she has a bad infestation of them. What worms do is feed off the food in your cat's intestine, so the catfood you are spending good money on is not nourishing your cat at all. You are running a worm farm. For you cat this means all kinds of bad things: anemia, poor resistance to disease, weight loss.
The worming medicine that the vet will administer is very potent and will get rid of them fast. If you can't get to the vet right away, Petco has some new worming medicine that they are advertising is as strong as what you get at the vet. You could get something from them. Be sure and read the instructions and follow them. You worm your cat today, and then, you worm her again in 2 weeks, when the eggs hatch to get the second wave. Then if your cat ever goes outside at all, worm her every 4-6 months, so this doesn't happen again.
Good luck, you silly thing.

It's probably tapeworms. Do the worms look like rice? (I know that's a disgusting comparison but it's what a vet asked me one time when I went to get medicine for my cat for worms). Cats can get worms by swallowing fleas. They're easy to treat...since it's the weekend go to an emergency vet and ask for medicine to get rid of worms. The vet will ask what the worms look like and how big your cat is (to know what type and how much medicine to give)...they will give you a pill and just take it home and make sure your cat swallows it (my cat hates swallowing pills...she tried to spit it back at me!). One pill should kill the worms and they'll be gone in a day or two. If you keep seeing them after this time, you might want to take your cat in to get checked out but this probably won't be necessary. Hope this helps.

Those are tapeworms, and she has then because she's been around fleas. The medicine to kill tapeworms is praziquantel, it is available at some pet stores but ONLY BUY THE CAT FORMULATION and follow the directions when giving it. The dosage for dogs is different. Praziquantel is very effective at killing the tapeworms but she will just get tapeworms again if she's exposed to fleas. The best way to prevent fleas are either keeping her inside and making sure your house is flea-free or buying the prescription topical meds at the vet. There are no effective over-the-counter flea prevention meds, and Hartz' medicines in particular have been reported to cause bad side effects in cats, sometimes even killing them. The good news is you can't catch tapeworms from her unless you eat fleas as well! Only buy praziquantel for tapeworms over-the-counter, this is the same as what the vet will prescribe. Don't buy a dewormer with any other ingredient, it won't work and might be harmful.

Don't use an over the counter wormer. They only kill a couple types of parasites, not all worms. Your vet can diagnose and give your cat the treatment it needs for the particular worms it has and check for other worms. Do you use flea products? Your cat (and dog) can get tapeworms from eating fleas out of it's fur. That is a really good reason to always have your pet on flea treatment.

Take it to a vet to get de-worming medicine. Sounds like it could be tape worms. This means you will also have to get flea medication for the cat as well as the cat gets the worms from the fleas. It will most likely take more than one treatment to get rid of the worms.
You will also need to keep the litter box clean.

well heres my answer to all ya well there are over the counter dewormers but they will not be effective unless you know what kind of worms you are treating. Different wormers work for different worms. Tape worms, round worms, hook worms, etc all might need to be treated differently. I suggest that you take a fecal sample in to your vet for analysis.

It has worms. Get a de-wormer from a pet store. This is NOT heart worms, as heart worms do not live in the intestines.
BTW, you will undoubtably hear a bunch of morons screaming,'Take it to a vet! NOW!'
Ignore them. This is an easily solved problem, and a vet will charge you a small fortune to determine what you already know.

I'd try a de-wormer first before you go running to the vet...
Wal-mart or any pet store should have it. It is difficult to get them to take though.
Round worms aren't going to kill your cat unless you let it go. Follow the directions and make sure the cat keeps eating okay (he's probably actually eating like a pig to make up for the worms)

Don't worry too much. It is very common for animals to have worms. Call your vet and they could worm her for you or recommend a type of de-wormer.
