My 5 year old grand daughter and my 2 year old grand son have scarletina and we do not know what all it is and how long things take to get cured.

Scarletina is a streptococcal infection (normally strep throat) with an erythrogenic strain that causes the sandpaper rash. In the days before penicillin, it was a real worry and even caused some deaths. Since World War II, it's become more of a nuisance, and you'll be pretty safe considering it an ugly case of strep throat. After a couple days' penicillin, the risks of spread drop precipitously.

It like measles but it's gone before you know what it is, unless there's some kind of secondary disease with it and, I'm sure there shouldn't be, don't worry.
