Sixth degree Larceny Consequenses?

My daughter was caught for this, she just took a perfumevalued at $49.00. Has court in about 2 weeks and I'm really worried about her. What are the consequences of this?

She was caught in Sears, and banned from the mall for a full year.

She was with me at the moment but I had no idea she was doing this, she wasn't arrested since I was present. Still im very embarrassed and dissapointed at my daughter. What do you think could happen in court?

She will be charged by Sears, but yet I have no idea how much anyone knows?

Well, in Texas that would be a fine only misdemeanor based on the value of the item STOLEN, no more severe than a speeding ticket. I hope you beat her butt

It depends what penalties Sears has, usually if it's something over a certain amount of money, a store WILL charge you, as by company policy, and most big stores have a zero tolerance for shoplifting. I'm thinking at the worst a few months in juvenile detention (if she's a minor) then probation, things like that, at the least she'll probably get a huge fine...

In which state?

In Connecticut, sixth degree larceny is a class C misdemeanor. Maximum sentence is 3 months in jail; minimum sentence is 3 months suspended.

Nothing will happen to her...she may have to take a class and maybe put on probation. Being as this is her first time, she'll get off with little more than a warning.
Talk to your daughter. Tell her that if she continues with this sort of behavior that though she will get off this time, she won't the next time, and that this is not a road that she wants to continue traveling as there is nothing good at the end of the road except the end. Of dreams, hopes, goals, and any chance at becomiing the lady that she is meant to be.

What your talking about is one of the most ridiculous of crimes to me.
6th Degree Larceny is a class C Misdemeanor, but has punishment of a $5000.00 fine and up to 10 years in jail or
both.

The laws vary by state.

Larceny (theft) may be a felony or misdemeanor depending on the severity. If it's 6th degree (higher numbers usually equal less severe), it's probably a misdemeanor.

Sentences vary by state, since laws vary by state. But generally, if she pleads guilty and works out a deal with the prosecutor, the sentence will be lighter than if she pleads not guilty and is convicted at trial.

If she has no prior Record, & promises not to Shop Lift anymore- she may get off with nothing more than a "fine", Community Service, & the "ban" you mentioned. It won't be anything she (or you) can't "handle"- but she NEEDS to understand that this IS a "big deal" -if she wants to get a good job in the future... It's HER future she's "gambling" with...

I would say Probation with community service time. I dont see any jail time. She might be able to apply for Pretrial Intervention

What ever it is she could carry this for a long long time.

It all depends on the state you live in.

By the way, did you ask her WHY she did it, and is this the way you raised her?

I personally think it would be more economical to take a shower.
