number of solutions...
1. Avoid busy town centres on a wet day
2. Find an undercover shopping centre
3. Arm yourself with the biggest umbrella you can find to keep all the other umbrella wielding public away from your eyes.
4. Design an umbrella that doesn't have spiky things on the end of the spokes. Better yet, design an umbrella with no spokes.
5. Walk slowly away from people with umbrellas.
6. Find a really good shop to hang out in until all the umbrella people have moved on.
7. Wear goggles

I find it very annoying as they don't on the whole tend to care and are oblivious to what they have done, worst of all are the golfing umbrellas. I can't wait to the time I have a walking stick, in fact I may just go and get one anyway now, because I'm going to turn round follow them and jab it between their legs and trip them up just as they get to a large puddle lol

yes and why do some people walk with them as if they were shields? Do they not understand the purpose for which they were intended. I think we should be allowed to push them over and jump on them
