This is a question that only a dermatologist or the person working in a reputable spa can answer after examining your skin and obtaining some basic information from you.

During microbrasion, tiny rough grains are used to remove the uppermost layer (stratum corneum) of your outer layer of skin (epidermis). This does cause a minor injury to the skin resulting in redness and swelling. Of course, this all has to heal. In someone with sensitive skin, the redness and swelling can persist for days.

While it can be beneficial for acne, make sure you are going somewhere with a good reputation. If microdermabrasion is done improperly, it can result in blemishes (yes...it can add to your eruptions), bruising and permanent discoloration of your skin.

Also, do not expect dramatic or long lasting changes! If you are hoping for that type of result, be prepared to continue microdermabrasion repeatedly. If you are looking for long term results, you might want to see a dermatologist to see if there is a better option for you.
