There are many things in the bible that are not talked about, that are unhealthy to do... but, God does not ban people from participating in these activities. Christians still smoke cigarettes because they are human beings, and sinners like all the rest of the people of earth. Smoking and many other activities that are unhealthy are common practices of all people... it takes a great deal of discipline and dedication to be a person that lives in moderation.
Smoking is not a forbidden activity, it is not even mentioned in the scriptures. However... all things are to be done in moderation, per the bible. Smoking is rather a difficult thing to do - in moderation. It only takes one cigarette per month to cause enough damage in your lungs that over a period of time, could lead to lung cancer. I think this is kind of important for anyone to note...
Honestly, I do not ask anyone to defend themselves to me about smoking. They face enough pressure from the world around them without having a Christian tell them it is not healthy for them. They know it... they just have troubles breaking the unhealthy habit. I am not interested in making a person's life more difficult. I am more interested in being supportive as people strive to make their lives better.
What I try to do, is live as a good example. I try to get enough sleep. I do not get drunk, I drink tons of water... and I avoid sugar, caffeine, and artificial flavoring. I do not smoke, and I eat healthy foods. I exercise, and try to live in the most healthy ways possible. It encourages those around me to do the same, and we can be each other's support team in the process.
We live in a society that makes all kinds of things available to us - in excess. Smoking has come under considerable scrutiny in the public eye. But, honestly... it is only a small part of the unhealthy things that we partake in on a daily basis. Discipline is not an easy thing to achieve, but it is so...so important.
I believe the passage... "First remove the log from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." The way we do this??? By being humble and changing ourselves first, in action... out of love for our Creator, our bodies (which are a temple provided to us by God), and the Creation.
If you get close to someone in friendship... that person will tell you... as you have earned his/her trust about his/her problems. Be solution oriented and be willing to support as it is needed. THAT is what is appreciated more than anything. I have found that being a great listener is the key.. then offering support emotionally, as people change their lifestyles. That is what I would want of another person in their dealings with me. So... it makes sense that I would treat others how I would wish to be treated.
I hope this helps you...
God bless you...

Smoking is a selfish act that they have yet to overcome. Show me one Christian who doesn't honestly desire to quit and I would wonder if they are truly a Christian. As a former smoker myself, I know the addiction very well. Quiting smoking is difficult but it can be done.

Some 'self-proclaiming' Christians smoke simply because it's either:
(a) Something (habit) that they haven't been able to let go of yet - haven't surrendered it over to God...
or
(b) Don't have personal convictions regarding that particular lifestyle habit.
Since the Bible doesn't technically address smoking in specific, some Christians feel there's room for discretion on that topic...Others, who believe they shouldn't smoke usually center it around the whole topic of your body being "the temple of the Holy Spirit."
So, it comes down to personal conviction.
I personally, feel that it's not biblical to smoke - but I don't dare judge those who do.

Are you saying that something God created is bad or evil?
God created the world and everything in it and when he looked at it he saw that it was GOOD! How dare anyone say something God created is bad or evil.
The only place good or evil lay in inside of a person and it is what comes from the inside out towards the rest of the world that is either good or evil.
The better question would be Why are some Christians so blindly self righteous?

They still have not been delivered from it. I used to smoke cigarettes. When I got born again...I got completely delivered from them. Deliverance is like a lost art in the Church these days...

oh... b/c nicotine is addictive.
it's a good stress reliever.
i guess they figure they're going to die someday...why not speed up the process a bit.
plus some people think it's still cool.
it has nothing to do with being a christian or a non-christian.

We ALL have sins and bad habits that we struggle with. Smoking cigarettes is no better and no worse than any other.
