Do you think supermarkets are holding the food industry and farmers to ransom? Do you believe our food travels too far to our plate? Should we support local produce, even if it means that we may have to shop more often at small shops or farmers markets?

I buy only local Products even though i sometimes pay more and here are my reasons

Local Supports the economy I live in.

Local means less Travel of product better for enviroment

Local= less travel no need for chems to preserve product for long travel also beter for enviroment

Local means I can actualy have knowledge of where the product comes from and even have a look see.

local i form relationship with the merchant and he usualy looks out to make sure i get his best stuff.

I have to go out of town for most of my supermarket shopping but I hit the discount food stores when I do.

I have my own vegetable garden but yes...as far as local farmers, I buy what I don't grow, ie., corn on the cob there but not much else.

I refuse to go to the high priced supermarkets.
Yes, they are a monopoly and hold alot of people at ransom. It's robbery !!
Many people would not be caught dead in a discount supermarket. Too bad for them-- because it is their loss.

Mom & pop local stores can not buy in the volume that the supermarkets can, and they also do not have the variety. Also their prices are more, because of this.
I do prefer the farmers markets, as the produce is fresher, expecially in the summer months.

The unfortunate part is, is that a lot of local farmers (esp here in Maryland) are suffering drought affects on their crops. I will generally goto produce stands to get my produce though

I would rather buy ALL of my goods in the place where there are less people shopping.

I HATE being in line with lazy parents with screaming children with dirty faces. I will travel 30 minutes out of my way to avoid the Mal-Mart.
