I used to live on a farm and my farm cats never had hairy toes.

As one answerer said, they got some of their genes from cats who lived in a cold climate, maybe many generations ago.


Also, cats who spend a lot of time outdoors wear away the fur between their toes, so you usually only see it in indoor cats. At the vet hospital where I work we call them carpet feathers.

If the furry feet cause a problem, such as tracking litter out of the box, you can shave them off with clippers.

Outdoor cats usually wear off the hair a little more. also, most outdoor cats are short-haired. Your kitties might have medium to long hair. It's perfectly normal and pretty cute.

Hair between toes prevents slipping on ice. Somewhere in this bloodline, it helped.

Our longhaired cats have had this, too. Their breed probably originated in a cooler climate. I always thought it was cute except it makes trimming their claws a bit challenging.
