I have just started a landscaping company this year, and I have done the traditional methods of advertising (newspapers, phone book). This has worked decently and I have a fairly consistent turnout, but I would like to expand further, any ideas on how better to get my name out there?

Make and print up some flyers ... use mostly 'real pictures' of jobs you've done ... and either distribute them 'door to door' (hang them by a rubber band from the doorknob, never put them into the mailbox ... it's a crime to do that unless it's 'real mail, which yours won't be) and ask at 'related businesses' (garden centers, senior centers, etc.) if you may leave a 'stack' somewhere ... you'll get LOTS MORE from those flyers than from your newspaper and phone book ads, so you may have to 'hire someone' to help you with all the new jobs. Print 200 flyers the first time, and get them all 'distributed' then print 300 the next time ... going up to 500 at a time ... but you probably won't need any more than the first 200/300 printings.

T-shirts, business cards, advertise on billboards at the local hardware/home improvement stores.

Create a flyer and target a neighborhood.
When you are out landscaping, door knock in the same area, at the sam time and offer the neighbors a discount on lawn services. Let them know that you can offer them a deal because you are currently working in their neighborhood.

After you perform a service, be sure to always tell the customer, that if they liked your services, pass your name along to family and friends. we have gotten lots of business in the past by using this technique. It is VERY low cost also, nothing works like word of mouth.

Target local business people, they need services on a regular basis and the do not have the time to do landscaping.

They would be more than happy to have someone take the hassle off their hands.

Consider bidding on a local government or city contract.

More advertising....Go to your local paper and find out pricing on inserts like were we live I can put 10,000 inserts into subscibing newspaper reciepiants for $300 and then I get the inserts made up online for about $0.02 per copy so for right around $500 I get my name out to 10,000 people...You should also do things like home and garden shows, parade floats, and if your local radio station does remote broadcasts do that...I also make up fliers with advertised specials and take them to all the rental properties, property management companies and realitors. By the way I run a family owned small flooring store and these are the things we have done and been very successfull at..

Try newspaper coupons that give a discount on your services, this works good, because it make the consumer feel like they are getting a great deal! Good Luck with your business

Ask your existing clients for a referral and give them a free extra service or a discount for each one they they provide - even if it doesn't result in a new client immediately.

Word of mouth is a huge benefit in your industry.
