I live in PA, and going to buy a 1972 Honda CT70, with no title, how do I get a title. My friend ran the VIN and got no record. I heard of outfits that will provide a title.

That will depend upon state law. A few states do waive title requirements on vehicles over a certain age. If your state is one then you won't have any problems. Check with your DMV for your state's procedures.

If your state doesn't waive the title requirement, do NOT buy the vehicle until the seller can provide a clear title. You won't be able to register it or use it on public roads until you get a clear title. In most states you can apply for an abandoned title but that typically takes about 6 months to wend its way through the process. There are no 3rd parties who can provide you a clear title unless they hold the title themselves in the first place.

DON'T DO IT!!!!! First go to www.carfax.com and get a detailed history of that car (you'll need the car's VIN). This will reveal if it has ever been sold at salvage, etc. and many other perils. It will also give you the odometer reading at various times in it's history. This report will cost you about $15 but it will be one of best things you have ever spent that amount of money for.

Next you need to consult your state's department of motor vehicles and ask them what you should do.

DO ALL OF THESE THINGS BEFORE YOU BUY THE CAR?
