You have my sympathy. I still bite my fingernails and have since I was 5. There were only two times that I was able to stop successfully for a time. It turns out that the meds I was taking at the time was also used to treat mild anxiety. Hmm...a clue... However, the risks for nailbiting are minor, so I choose not to go the medicated route. Some people have been successful by sitting on their hands, but that can cause circulation problems. Another gal I know wore several rings so that she would NOTICE she had her hands near her mouth. Most nail biting is unconscious. You don't even realize you are biting on them. For many people, nail biting is just habit. For others, like me, apparently it is an expression of some sort of anxiety. edited to add: Hey, I like the tape idea. I will give that a shot.

For me, I had to stop biting them because it was starting to hurt my teeth. I started to do something else that focused on my nails and made them better in the process. Instead of biting them, I would file them. Then they started looking good and I could polish them and such. If this doesn't work, there is a polish that you can use on your nails that tastes really bad whenever you bite them. I hope this helps. Enjoy your day and take care.

Try bad/bitter tasting nail polish. It reminds you to not bite your nails. Also remember biting your nails is a bad habit because it can cause a bacteria or infection to develop.

I'm having the exact same problem, although I only focus on one finger, so I'm trying to find a solution on how I can stop it as well. We have the same problem. I would have really nice hands if it weren't for stupid me biting my nails. *irked*

well..
1) when u begin 2 bite, think about the consiquences.
2) sit on your hands
3) get a manicure - hey, it might help
4) get that nail stuff that tastes really bad so every time that you bite your nails, you'll "recoil" at the taste. lol
HOPE THIS HELPED!!!☺☺☺

Try chewing gum. When I got braces, I completely stopped. Maybe try getting fake nails.

Have you try painting it, or maybe rubbing something bitter on it (just be sure to keep the bitter juice it in your purse at all times, that way, after you wash your hands, you can re-lubricate again)?

It means you are bored, find some activities to keep you occupied, and chewing gum may help too.
