I think the hotline will be overwhelmed the first weeks. It is a good idea and it is becoming obvious that local government is the one to do the job the Federal government won't do.

We the people, spoke up loud and clear that we wanted to stop illegal immigration during the amnesty debate in DC, so yes all levels of law enforcement should be in the business of reporting then handing over of the illegals to the feds for deporting. I think that a hot line is a good first step, but it should be watched to make sure it is not abused. One of the reasons we have no many illegals is because once they get in the interior of this country no one question their status, if they knew that they might be reported and deported they might think twice about coming. Sheriff Joe is a no nonsense guy and should be commended for his no nonsense approach to the law

Yes !! But with the following provisions`for the sheriffs`office to accept a call reporting an ILLEGAL . Anyone that wants to become a spootter for ILLEGALS must go to the sheriffs office and sign up "to be an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT spotter ! The citizen requesting this status would be subject to a *complete* and "extensive" background check , to verify only Legal Americans will be available to do this service ..Upon approval , an ID card with a password attached to it would be issued to the ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT spotter ! If calling in to report an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT spotting , your ID and your password must match , or no one will be sent to check out the spotting !! The reason for doing all these security checks for spotters is that if you don`t have a system in place that will only justify true , legitimate , certified citizens reporting , then the ILLEGALS could overwhelm the agents with phoney , bogus calls just to send them on wild ILLEGAL goose chases . You know , a bogus call from the ILLEGALS can be sending the agents to the north side of town , while the ILLEGALS do their thing on the south side of town , not to mention all the confusion and wasted man hours in running down all the bogus calls the ILLEGALS would be making !!!

Sheriff Joe just did what he always does, he floated a trial balloon to see how this would play with his media lapdogs. Survey said thumbs up, Sheriff Joe started the hotline. Any Arizonan who mistakenly believes this is anything more than another Sheriff Joe publicity stunt will be sorely disappointed.

By the way, has Sheriff Joe ever apologized to Saban for that smear job that he pulled with his attack media dog Koebel (sp?)

Hopefully all other states and localities will follow suit and we can get this illegal situation over!

I think it will because it's part of the larger plan that Arizona is developing to combat the illegals. Arizona is to be commended for their multi-faceted approach.
