ok, my throat is very red and sore, and I noticed a red bump in the back of my throat....like where the throat forms to the roof of the mouth, in between that area. The bump is very red and about the size of a m&m and it hurts to touch. I had sex a few days ago, is this strep throat, mono or std? Has anyone had strep with just one fairly big sore/bump in back of throat? Thanks

Strep throat is usually white patches in the back of the throat. Go see a doctor to know for sure.

When my daughter (at 9) had sores in the back of the throat that were round, different sizes, but as red as a Pall Mall package, the doctor said it was "Herpes stomatitis". (Herpes is fever blister virus, stoma is an opening, itis means inflammation). So it was fever blisters in her throat.
He said, "Give her anything you can get down her; I have an 11-year-old boy in the hospital with it" and suggested popsicles. Anything with any grease made it sting (chicken broth) and it was too painful to swallow.

After she got over this, any time she got too tired (like a Walk-a-thon) her lips would break out with fever blisters. She was treated by a dermatologist who was up on the latest, including experimental, but got more, frequently. She is grown now, and does much better.

I hope this is not what you have, but if you do, Google Herpes stomatitis. Good luck.

strep throat is easy to detect.. it is small white puss pockets in the back of your throat. Red bumps would indicate a bacterial infection. Go to the dr. You need antibiotics.

the only way to know for sure is to have your throat cultured, and please do so, strep is very contagious.
