talk to someone at your bank. sometimes there is a fee for closing an account within so many days normally its like the first 90 day or so. See what the minimum balance is there. most banks have a zero minimum balance limit. wait until your money is available -sometimes banks will make new customers have a waiting period until their money is available for withdrawl. if there is a minimum balance just withdraw out your money keep a little in there like $1 or $2. then open the new account-and get ur debit card, credit card.
you dont wanna pay any fees for closing your account to early. its ok to have 2 banking accounts just dont overdraw that can be costly. i have 2 banks one i use for a savings the other for checking bills and spending money. that way im not tempted to transfer money from my savings to my checking..
about minors with debit cards.-- its not against the law to have a debt card- its up to the bank manager they can override that- debit card you cant charge things on.
credit card might be a different story. pretty sure youll need a cosigner if under 18

You should just go in a cancel the account...you will have to pay a fee at most banks if you don't keep the account open. You will probably have to pay for checks because they have already been ordered.
PS...any bank that is offering a minor a debit card with a mastercard/visa logo without an adult on the account is breaking the law...by having a card with a v/mc logo you are subject to the card holder agreement and that is a legal document, minors are not allowed to sign a legal contract.

Go to the bank and request to cancel the account. They will issue you a check or cash for the amount you deposited into the account

Go in and tell them you want to cancel the account or write yourself a check for your balance less any bank charges and deposit it in the new bank. It would be better to go in because you might mistake the amount of bank charges and have a overdraft.

Go back to the bank's lobby, walk up to the Checking Services desk, Close the Account. You will have to inventory all the blank checks and any checks you may have written, plus any service charges.

Go back, in person and cancel it. You may be subject to fees, unfortunately. But they shouldn't be to bad.
