No "meaning" ... except that it was a very fancy coat, that took lots of time and resources to make... it would show him to be the favorite son...

It can mean only 2 things.
1. It may have been mad from different pieces of scrap material-hence, different colors. Or-
2. It may have been a specially made gift from a father to a favorite son. Many different colors may have been symbolic of an enormous cost for the coat.

It could also be translated as a long sleeved coat. It was representative of the clothes that the person in charge would wear which is why Joseph's brothers were jealous because it showed that Jacob intented for Joseph to be the head of the family.

In that time, the amazing variety of textile dyes we take for granted were utterly unknown. Each color was painstakingly obtained from plants or animals and underwent extensive preparation before actually being introduced to the textile it was to color.
Therefore, the more colors your clothing possessed, the (A richer or (B more beloved you were of the giver.
Thus by giving his next-to-the-youngest son, (and first-born of the beloved wife, Rachel) such a garment, Jacob trumpeted his favoritism to all his people. If you're an older brother who's been actively working your posterior off for dear old dad and the good of the tribe and dear old dad goes and gives the snotty little brother who doesn't do squat such a gift, wouldn't you be a trifle miffed?
So they conspired to rid themselves of Joseph. Sibling rivalry at its most obvious.
And that's all it means.

Actually, the richly ornamented robe, was a mark of Jacob's favoritism. This kind of garment was worn by the virgin daughters of the king. This a sign of covenant that the life of Joseph would be one lead to the reign and God's purpose with Israel.

the coat of many colors is a story in the Bible of Joseph, a favored son whose father gave him a richly made coat to wear thereby elevating his status amongst his family/ It also tells us that God has plans to adorn us in bright array and show that we are favored children of his, if only we believe in him and his son Jesus

After Joseph's brothers left him for dead, they dipped his coat in animal blood. They did this to try to prove to Joseph's Father that he had been attacked by wild animals. The many colours refers to the blood soaked coat.

It means that the last born son was made a favorite, by his father and mother; and the kid liked to brag about his special status - to his older brothers. The brothers decided to kill him !! Then, one of them thought of another plan, they sold him to an arabian caravan and he ended up in egypt. His name was Joseph. And he did have an extra measure of forgiveness in his soul; which God needed demonstrated in order for God's plan of moral evolution to be carried forward.

Way back when, Abraham's grandson, Jacob, had a favored son, named Joesph. As a symbol of his favor, he gave Joesph a "richly ornamented robe".

It was the sign or symbol of a ruler. In Joseph's case that he was above his elder brothers. But he (like we all)will learn that Before God allows one to be a ruler he must first LEARN to be a SERVANT!
