visiting in california, broke my specs, and need least expensive place for perscription glasses in northern california. any thoughts on a location?

Try a Super Walmart. They are quick and pretty cheaply priced. Also, if you want, just pick up a newspaper. Most eye glass placed put ads in the paper advertising a sale, like buy one get one free.

Walmart, or LensCrafters. I don't know about Walmart, but LensCrafters claims (or used to claim) that they can make you glasses in an hour, which would be the best option if you are here for a short time. Costco also has cheap glasses, but you will need to bring a member or know someone with a membership. Optometrists' offices may have some cheap frames, but they will take a week or two to get one for you.
