Religion is the strongest link because people tend to be moral and good while politics is the weakest link because officials tend to enrich themselves while in power.

Your approach to a situation such as this is very admiral.
The weakest link to problems in America is we as Americans have lost the continuity we use to have years ago. Why were neighborhoods safer years ago, partly because people got to know each other but mostly because people were on the same page with their thinking. What was wrong behavior in one person's house was wrong in the hold community, people were unified in their thinking which also says that people didn't necessarily have to like each other but they did have to respect the rules of what was consider right and wrong.
Today we've gotten away from a uniform right and wrong, what's right for one isn't necessarily right for someone else and we wonder why people are out of control there are no real standards to follow.

I think that Will Rogers said it best:
"The only people capable and qualified for office, would never run". Our political system has become a travesty of what was intended. I do not mean to imply that this a recent event. ie... Teapot Dome, James Buchanan, Aaron Burr, Richard Nixon, etc... Our basic checks and balances are comprised of whom we vote for, why and what we allow them to get away with. Any time someone spends several million dollars to get elected, needs "spin doctors", speech writers, media consultants, image consultants and who knows what else. Why should we, as tax paying American citizens, vote for them? I have to ask, if they can't get elected on their own, why should I vote for them?
I suppose my point is, the weakest link is politicians and the political process, our strongest link is our military. Our military may be comprised of volunteers, professional soldiers, Marines, sailors and airmen, however....Each and everyone of them has sworn an oath to protect and defend the constitution of the United States. Believe me, I think I speak for every man and woman, that oath is taken very seriously.
Look to the politicians for the weakest link, look to our people for our strongest link.

I would argue that the civic action groups (Moveon.org, etc.) are the strongest link considering their doing something about what they believe in the strongest of American traditions.
I would argue that the weakest are the people who say things like "America, love it or leave it" as this is akin to the Nazi strategy of swear allegiance or die. It not only enhances an extremely hawkish view that dissent shouldn't be allowed, which is a violation of first amendment rights it's blatantly against what our forefathers intended when they created this country.
Separately, if you're planning on doing something you can go to http://www.idealist.org/ they can help you connect with groups that deal with everything from animal rights to civil liberties.

Our strongest link is our number of strong intact families. Our weak link is the number of one or zero parent families. Without a mother and a father a child has a reduced chance in life. How much reduced depends on the amount and quality of other family to help pick up the slack for the missing parent and the dedication of the remaining parent.

The citizens are the strongest link. The politicians are the weakest. Usually corrupt and always with their own agenda.

Good luck and I sincerely hope you can make or influence some change. You are 110% correct; we need change. My faith in America was somewhat restored when citizens strngly voiced their opinion which lead to killing amnesty for illegal aliens. I think if people took a greater interest in what our law makers are doing and voiced their opinion we could make some difference. Citizens need to take a stand; it is our freedoms, our quality of life, and our ability to seek and achieve the American dream that is being torn apart by politicians who are more concerned with their own agenda and looking out for special interest groups. The weak links are passive attitudes allowing law makers to do as they want. When the people unite and make their concerns known LOUD AND CLEAR (as they did to kill the amnesty) we can improve our society. The hesitation to impeach politicians who can not or do not do their job or who commit crimes while in office is a weak link. Politicians know they can get by with a lot - if common Joe citizen can go to jail for simple crimes politicians should also go to jail. If common Mary Citizen can loose her job for inefficiencies or errors then we should be able to remove politicians who make larger errors. Bush says politicians who are handicapped or restrained with fear of removal or prosecution can not do their job. If they are doing it illegally or improperly they should be removed; you would be and I would be. Good luck - I applaud your effort!
