You can go to ancestry.com & start with your Grandparents names on your Fathers side (if born by 1930). You just need the city, state they were born & approx. birthday & you can go back from there. The names you listed are English, so the Irish side might have come in from the maternal side in marriage. Do you know your Grandmother or Great Grandmothers maiden name. With that info, you can really go back pretty far. If you don't want to pay for this site and you know what county & state they wer born in here in the U.S., you can always travel to that county court house & find records for free. Most go back to at least 1850. They should have Census, Marriage, & most Birth records. I have been working on my family tree & really like ancestry.com...it is really easy to navigate & they have geneoligists on staff you can call in & talk to if you are having problems or questions. Hope this helps! Good luck in your research.

I am in the UK and I have membership to the global collection ancestry.com/co.uk, I just looked up both names and I was amazed how many Oldfields came up, there weren't as many Densmore's but there were still plenty.
One of the other yahoo answerer's said that if you have your great-grans maiden name you could get further back. In the UK maiden names weren't included on birth certificates until 1911, and civil registration actually didn't become mandatory until 1837.
If you would like me to start a search for your ancestors for you would you be more specific, name, age and year are essential. I am sure that if you edit your question you will get a lot of help and very quickly.

I did 2 searches on yahoo: one for Oldfield genealogy, the other for Densmore genealogy. Each returned dozens of potentially good sites, for all the information you need.
Have a go yourself, and good luck!!

There are actually several regulars here who are in the UK, and very helpful in locating information for others. Unfortunately, your question is so broad that it is impossible to know exactly what they (or someone else) might be looking in. Are these persons who immigrated in the 1600's? the 1800's? For example there might be an Oldfield gentleman who came to the US in 1750, whose descendents have already solidly researched his lineage. He may or may not be related to someone else with the same name, who came 150 yrs later. Again... NOT EVERYONE with the same name is related.
The bottom line is whether or not you have verified what information you have, with original (or close to it) records. Do you know who the exact immigrant ancestor was? There are also surname areas at several places, like www.genforum.com, but the same question will apply there. You might have numerous cousins who have researched in depth, and will be happy to share that with you.
Forgive me if I am making an assumption here.. without specifics or even estimates, it puts us in a bind to help.

There is a website named Genes reunited. You are able to form your own family tree there. There is contact between people who share the same surnames and members of the family. Therefore you can find other members of your entire family tree back quite a long way.....
Try it! You'll enjoy it!

Go to the genealogy division at the llibrary. There are CDs with mega info on them- you can even find out who their neighbors were. Most libraries have a genealogy specialist who can guide you.

You need to put some leg work in so that you are more specific as to who you are looking for. Have a look at www.familysearch.org which is a good site and www.ancestry.com ( or just for the UK .co.UK) good luck and good hunting

Strangely enough the Mormon Church are the most authoritative people to go to on the internet. They have made it their mission to collect the names of everyone in the world and their ancestory.
