Sure- any color you want!
Ingredients
1 1/4 cups water
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 1/2 cups flour
1 1/4 teaspoons yeast
For bread machine:
Measure ingredients into baking pan in order given. Set for dough cycle. When the dough is ready, proceed with "To Colour" below.
For hand mixed:
In a large bowl, Disolve sugar in lukewarm water. Add yeast. Let sit for 10 minutes.

Stir. Add 1 1/2 cups flour and salt. Mix vigourously for at least 5 minutes. This will reduce the kneading time. Add balance of flour 1/2 cup at a time until dough is smooth and no longer sticky.

Turn onto a floured board and knead for 10 minutes. Cover dough with a clean tea towel and let rise in a warm place for 1/2 to 1 hour, until it doubles in size. Punch down to remove all air bubbles.

To Colour:
Divide dough into 3 or 4 equal parts (one part for each colour desired). Poke a hole in the dough with your finger. Put food colouring into the hole. Use a little (5-6 drops) for light colours, more for bright colours. Pinch the hole closed and knead the dough for 5 to 10 minutes, until the colour is well mixed in.

Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out very flat. Use a little water to moisten the top of one piece so the next piece will stick to it. This is very important if alot of extra flour was used to keep the dough from sticking during kneading. Roll the dough into a log and place it in a greased and floured bread pan. If you do not have a bread pan, it can be placed on a greased and floured cookie sheet. Let rise for 45 to 60 minutes. More rising time will produce a lighter bread, while less time will result in a denser bread.

Heat oven to 350'F. Bake bread for about 25 minutes. Remove bread from pan immediately when done. Bread should sound hollow when tapped on the bottom. If it does not, it is not cooked yet. Cool 10-20 minutes before cutting.

Yes, no red dye no 2. As a matter of fact my Mother used to make red and green twisted bread for the Christmas holidays.

Hi
Divide your finished dough into three parts just before you place it in your pans and give it a last rising before putting it in the oven. To do this,
put each part into a medium sized bowl that you have oiled lightly.....

into one part,
** mix a little curry powder or
** a combination of turmeric, a few strands of saffron soaked in a tsp of hot water, and a touch of sugar, and a tablespoon of water to make the dough just as soft as the parts containing beets and spinach; knead it into the dough

into the second part
** mix in cooked beet puree which you squeeze dry by pressing it with the back of a spoon against the side of a sieve

into the third part
** mix in some spinach which you press against the side of a sieve and make dry

put all three together in any fashion you wish ....in layers in the pan: press the dough down with your knuckles before it rises to make the layers stick to each other
or twist the three together by pinching them together at one end, twist, then pinch the other ends together, tuck into the baking tin


If you wish the bread to be sweet, you can do the same procedure of dividing the dough into three and use for color:
***red: candied cherries or dry cranberries or cherries soaked in a little hot water (or brandy)
***green: candied citron
***yellow: candied lemon peel

be sure to add a couple of spoons of sugar, a tablespoon of butter, and 1/2 a teaspoon of cardamom (or more if you really like it) to your dough at the very beginning, after you have proofed your yeast

You can always use food coloring in your mixture of bread.

just add a lil liquid food coloring when kneeding the bread

Sweet Pea you sure can. Just get some food coloring or food dye. It's really inexspensive too.

to make it red add some beets in the dough

to make it green add spinach


this also goes for pasta :)

divide your dough ,,color it
then kneed to mix thoroughly
then twist like rope or braid and place in the loaf pan.

yes of coarse i do it all of the time its actually fun just put some food dye in it and bake it
