Loyalty is so much talked about, but how far would you take it? Let say your brother murdered someone, and told you how would you deal with it? Or you son shot his girlfriend in the head and told you it was a accident? How tight would you be then with your family, would you break you silence?

I think that part of being loyal and loving is to not to allow major things like that as acceptable even minor things if a family member is breaking the law then I would report that it doesn't mean I stop loving that person but you don't have to accept immoral behavior and if some one is toxic to you and others then I don't think you allow that person in your life so that they aren't poisoning my life or my children. If my son shot any one and it was an accident truly an accident then I would make sure that he got any and all the help that he needed to deal with that. I would break my silence because I think that's part of being a moral and responsible person, also with parenting that is a parents job to guide the child into a independent moral responsible citizen of society, you can't do that if they aren't held accountable for their actions.

Loyalty is one thing, responsibility is another. The issue would be responsibility. The person in question would have to owe up to his responsibility. If not, he would always be looking over his shoulder not to mention the guilt trip that would be playing in your head and his.. So, he should turn himself in and you should let him know that regardless the end results, that you would be there for him.

I would never protect anyone from the law. The consequences of their actions is on them. However unconditional love means that you love the person no matter what the behavior. You can love someone behind bars where they belong.

I would definitely insist that they turn themselves in. If they refused I would. You can still love your family and do the right thing.
