who is that pope, besides a man who was elected by other men? many false prophets will rise up and declare many things, but I have read the Word of God and have a relationship after having surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. His Word and lessons are what I follow, not any given by 'men'..... religion is not what Jesus taught..... it was the religious who persecuted and had Jesus put to death. The pope has no power... over me or anyone else... he is just a man

Contrary to popular opinion, that is not what he said. It is understandable, that as non-Catholics, we are easily led astray by myths and lies purported by those who misunderstand the teachings of the Catholic Church.

While he did say that other denominations suffered from defects, he did not say that all other churches are without salvation. I read the document and realized the truth of what he was saying, which was a far cry from what the media was saying that he said.

"It follows that these separated churches and Communities, though we believe they suffer from defects, are deprived neither of significance nor importance in the mystery of salvation. In fact the Spirit of Christ has not refrained from using them as instruments of salvation, whose value derives from that fullness of grace and of truth which has been entrusted to the Catholic Church"[12].

Alignment with Scriptural teaching, not apostolic succession, is the determining factor of the trueness of a church. What is mentioned in Scripture is the idea that the Word of God was to be the guide that the church was to follow (Acts 20:32). It is Scripture that was to be the infallible measuring stick for teaching and practice (2 Timothy 3:16-17). It is the Scriptures that teachings are to be compared with (Acts 17:10-12). Apostolic authority was passed on through the writings of the apostles, not through apostolic succession.

The Pope is entitled to his own opinion. Remember, it's because of the corrupt Popes of the past that we have so many different religions today. He can "declare" whatever he wants. It doesn't change my knowledge that as long as I continue on my current path, salvation is mine to enjoy.

That pope reminds me of a certain pope who had a son (and daughter, I think). The pope is not to be questioned when it comes to matters of faith, but the church is supposed to save them from eternal damnation, not condemn them outright.

No, he did not. You really ought to read the actual document instead of relying on the media hype.

It follows that these separated churches and Communities, though we believe they suffer from defects, are deprived neither of significance nor importance in the mystery of salvation. In fact the Spirit of Christ has not refrained from using them as instruments of salvation, whose value derives from that fullness of grace and of truth which has been entrusted to the Catholic Church”[12].

Can you show me the precise text of the document that shows that "The Pope declared all other churches without salvation."?

Have you read the full and complete text of his recent statement that gave rise to your question?

Thank you.

The Pope's word is as useless to me as any other so-called spiritual leader. The church has been broken in all aspects of Christanity for years. Sanctuary will be hard for MOST to find with all the confusion and symbolism out there.

The pope is a self-appointed charlatan.

I wouldn't even want his brand of salvation.

Catholics, the warning bells should be going off for you. Get out of the Catholic church unless you want to be a part of the next inquisition.

Autumnleaves, he didn't say that specifically, he said that all other churches aren't really christian.

Now gee, if we're not really christian, how do we receive salvation?
