I'm wondering about how to attain a dual US+UK citizenship.
In short, my mom is from northern Ireland and my dad is American. They were living in Germany when I was born, so I had a UK passport at 2 years old for when we moved back to the US.
I'm wondering if because I had a UK passport at one time, there were different procedures for me to attain a dual citizenship. I should also mention I'm 19 years old now.

You may be too young to immigrate on your own now. However, as you finish college and find good job and has good income, you can immigrate to UK and hold dual UK + US citizenship. However, I think you past UK passport might not mean a whole lot legally speaking. It would not be a problem and it may not be of much help either. After 9/11, many countries are tightening their immigration law.

Madman has the idea except that Germany does allow dual citizenship under certain circumstances (under age 23, dual citizenship at birth, etc.) Mexico on the other hand does not allow dual citizenship. Most Mexican Americans that have a US and a Mexican passport are US citizens and Mexican nationals (two different things).

You were evidently registered as a UK citizen when you were little. Hopefully you still have the passport, if you go to the British embassy with it and with current ID, I can't see any reason why you should not be able to get a new British passport. The UK has no problem with dual nationality; if you had been born in NI, you could even have got an Irish passport as well!

I would guess you would have no problem obtaining a US passport, just apply and see what happens.

Truthfully I think you probably already are a dual citizen. You can apply for a UK passport by yourself from the age of 16 - so as long as you have your mothers original birth certificate or your old passport, there is no reason why you cannot just go ahead and apply for another passport.

Just remember though that you will need to show your American passport every time you leave or enter the USA - and show your British passport every time you enter or leave the UK. :-)

If your father is a US citizen then you are entitlend to US citizenship. Because you were not born in America the process is a longer one and you will need your dad to help you anlong the way. Go to your nearest American Embassy, they will be able to give you more accurate info.
With regards to havin had a UK passport at one stage..that wont matter as both the US and UK allow dual citizenship.
Hope that helps and good luck with it

You already have dual. You qualified under descent. In the British passport you had when you were a kid it should say under nationality "British Citizen" (unless you were on your parents passports). Just apply for a new passport (because it's expired).

If you've lost the British passport then you can apply for a new passport under your mom (you'll need plenty of paperwork though). You don't really apply for citizenship you just make sure it's recognised through the passport.

Just talk to your parents and make sure they didn't renounce your British side when you went to the US.

you can be both! I am both, my friend is both ( she was born in USA now Brit cit) we both have 2 valid ppts!
and if you come to UK you can apply for ancestry visa and then british passport - unless, i think that once you had it, you should just re apply for it, no need to qualify! You qualified by already being Brit once!
