in all honesty, if it's done in good taste i see nothing wrong with it. most older women don't wear make-up. if a 45 yr. old woman who takes care of herself wears make-up and is presentable, go for it. if she's out there dressed like a tramp, then that's sad. she needs to act her age and carry herself appropriately. hanging at a bar with 21 yr old men is not the key. however, if she met a 21 yr old and had a relationship, to me, that's different. but to just stalk out young meat, that's just wrong.

Well, there's a fine line between "growing old gracefully" and "making an idiot of yourself". For example, a 50 year old with a weight problem isn't fooling anyone by wearing low-rider jeans. As far as ACTING like a younger person -- how do you mean, exactly? Drinking all night? Multiple sexual partners? Watching MTV? Buying clothes in the teen department instead of the woman's department?
With increased attention to health and exercise issues, most 40 and 50 year olds FEEL great, so why not be able to enjoy the benefits of all that healthy living? I know that, at 50, I feel better now than I did at 30, with small children and work demands sucking energy out of me left and right :-) And frankly, I wouldn't be 30 again for anything -- it's great to be 50, with self-confidence and a bit more wisdom about the ways of the world.

Turn your thinking around, and do it FAST! I'm 56, and I'm 'old' because I have several 'life threatening' health problems,' including critical heart disease ... but I am also in most ways much YOUNGER than you are (or the 45 year old woman of whom you are speaking). WHY? Because I've had cancer twice, and the first time was declared 'terminal' with a life expectancy of 3 months. That was when I was 21 years old ... but I was 'far too young to die' so I got very angry at the cancer. I made a list of all of the things I wanted to do before I died, and added up the time it would take me to do them all. That list was so long I'd have to live to be 150. I still have that same list ... but it's not getting shorter, it's much longer. I now will have to live to be 250 to do everything I want to do ... and so with that as my 'goal' I am not 'well past middle age' but am quite young ... and even if by some miracle medical science becomes so advanced that I'll be 'truly middle aged' by the time I turn 125, I'll still be younger than middle age, because my list will have grown longer still and I won't want to die before I'm 400 or 500 or 600.
So ... should a woman who is 45, dress and act like a younger person. OF COURSE ... but she is not 'well past middle age' ... she's just a kid, and kids do dress weirdly, and do weird things ... and just how old are you? Because by your statement, YOU are the oldest of all of us, because your mind is so 'skewed' that you think we are 'getting old' and should have the 'decency' to go away and leave you 'younglings' alone ... just wait, my dear ... you'll definitely think differently when you get to be our age ...

When they say 45 is the new 30, this relates more to quality of life than to chronological age. 20 years ago, someone who was 65 was considered quite old. You wouldn't expect them to be working, traveling much or engaging in any sort of physical activity. Baby boomers have been redefining what it means to grow old and it is now perfectly acceptable for older people to lead very active, involved lifes. This being said, I agree that it is just plain wrong for people to deny their age and try to be much younger than they really are. The stero-typed ways people do this are with their clothing or with their speech. I think the message we need to learn is to enjoy our lives to the fullest at the age we are in and not to live in either the past or the future.

First of all you little fetus, 40 is the new 30, 30 is the new 20, etc.
But to answer your question, every woman needs to dress appropriately - teens need to stop dressing like prostitutes just like 40 yr old women shouldn't wear mini-skirts (unless they're Demi Moore or have a body like her).
Women need to get back to the days when a lady would leave a little mystery. Skin tight clothing never looks good on anyone. A little cleavage is fine - it's never good for any woman to wear a blouse where the "girls" could pop out at any moment to say hello. My personal style - classic and stylish professional - no matter what the age.

If people in the clothing business thought like you do, clothing would be tagged by age, not by size.
I think the size idea is better and wonder how the big bellied teenagers with tight clothes and big boobed youth with their tops that cut into their cleavage and cut off circulation, or pants that show their bums missed out on that conception.
Ordinarily, I believe in Live and Let Live. Guess you hit a sore spot today.

I say dress the way you want to. Life's too short to worry about what everyone else thinks. If you feel comfortable wearing clothes that make you feel better why not. Who says just because you get older you have to dress a certain way? Who has the right to tell anyone how they should dress?
Everyone's too ******* worried about what everyone else is doing, I'm gonna do what the hell I want to do when I get older, and I suggest that everyone else does the same. If people don't like it then **** off.

age is only a number! don't think so negatively! and as far as clothes, if she can pull it off gracefully, why not? although it depends on the occasion. honestly, is a 45 year old supposed to wear a potato sack to the beach or the pool! or maybe sweat pants or hot jeans in the summer because you don't think she should wear shorts because she is ...oh my God '45'. find a real issue to worry about!☺

LOL! When you hit your 40's, you'll remember this question and feel stupid. I am almost 44 and feel like I'm 20. I am also married to a man who is 32. *SNAP* I dress in what I feel good in and comfortable in. I'm not trading in my jeans for polyester just yet.
P.S. I wouldn't trade my age for being 20 again for anything. I am very comfortable exactly where I am and am not afraid of growing old. I look forward to becoming wiser.

its okay to dress young but only if you dress sophisticated. When im 30 or 40 or 50....Ima be acting mature, dressing nice but still acting young. Theres nothing wrong with staying hip with the times but you still gota remember.....you dont want to be 45 with a 15 year old kid who is embarassed that your trying to be 25 again.
