That depends upon state law. Some states, MO for example, do not require a safety inspection for the first 2 years. If this is the case then you don't need it -- no harm, no foul.

If your state does require a safety inspection regardless of the vehicle age then again, state law will prevail. Some states require licensed dealers to provide a current safety inspection on all vehicles sold to the general public -- i.e. not sold at wholesale to another licensed dealer. Other states (MA for example) require the BUYER to get a safety inspection within a few days of taking delivery.

So, before you jump the gun, check on your state's laws first. Any safety inspection station can advise you as can any DMV office. If your state requires the dealer to provide the safety inspection you might be able to hold the down payment hostage until they provide it. In all other cases it's clearly a separate issue.

Dont give them any more $$ till you get the sticker. Also you want a copy of the inspection report. In detail...There is a site you can go to and run a check on the vecihle. I believe it is www.carfax.com.. Good Luck

Have them do the inspection of the car. In Massachusetts, you have 10 days I believe to have the new sticker put on. But the dealer should inspect for you for FREE as part of the sale. It takes maybe 15 minutes to have it done, so have them do it.

Do they give you the sticker, or do you have to get yourself?

Call them and ask the normal procedure for inspection stickers . good luck.

Contact your salesperson and let them know - they should make it very convenient for you to come in and get stickered.
