some used tires are being used as alternative fuel, but a lot of them are being ground up and used as coating on our roadways and also as mulch on playgrounds and around plants and trees....here in ohio you can buy a 50 pound bag of this tire mulch for about 10 or 15 dollars and it comes in a variety of colors....one of our local churches has it in the play area for the children and it is a bright blue in color...it inhibits the growth of weeds...bugs don't seem to like it.....and as with rugular tree mulch, cats don't use it as a bothroom...one added bonus is that is is softer than mulch....

ksotaghs' information is correct but you should have no problem putting on the 205s. Most wheels will accommodate two steps from the recommended size and you're only changing 1 step, and since you are going smaller there won't be a problem with fender clearance. What is most important that was not mentioned is that the narrower tires will have a lower load rating. Ordinarily that is not a problem unless you regularly keep your car fully loaded with people or cargo or tow a trailer and drive at high speed. Overloaded tires could cause a blowout. One size doesn't change the load rating much but you should be aware of it in case the 215s are smaller than the manufacturer recommends. Then again, the 215s might be wider than recommended and the 205s were recommended to begin with. Visit tire rack and check what size is recommended for the car and the load rating of the tires you have. The narrower tire will result in your speedometer reading a bit faster than it did. You will be going about 1- 2 mph slower than the speedometer indicates.

Ive used 6 stacked for a compost bin.
I have a mouse mat and pencil case made from recycled tyres.
My dad used to turn them into patio planters.
They can be used for the foundations of strawbales houses.
They can be used to build homes, see Brightons Earthship.
Farmers use them to block gaps in fences and hold down the polythene on their silage.
I use them whole and fill with earth and plants, if large enough they can be made into a sandpit for the children (ie tractor tyres) or lined and used as a paddling pool.
They can be made into swings and stepps for childrens play areas.

Quite a few would be recycled, here in Spain they are used to mark out go kart tracks ,of which there are many, the rest appear to be used for decorating the landscape (or maybe I mean for being dumped all around the landscape)probably the same in every country.

some parts can be recycled and some are just land fell

it depends on how the tyres are when they are handed over

One of the big things going now with used tires is grinding them up and using them in pavement. One of the things people aorund here use them for it to fill in the low places on their drives. You know those pesty places that seem to keep washing out all the time no matter what you fill them with.

recycle. this was done on Dirty Jobs by Mike Rowe. Very interesting what they do with the old tires and how they are used for different things.
