I'm outside Malaysia and I found my Malaysia passport is expired. Can I get back to Malaysia using the expired Malaysia passport? Will I be punished by the law?

Yes, you mst contact the nearest Malaysian embassy. I hope you had travelled out of Malaysia and have been for the last 6 months at least. If you hadnt then you must be prepared for lots of questions. It is the right of every embassy to question you on this especially now with terrorist traveling around across borders freely. It is the responsibility of every citizen to make sure his/her travel documents are valid at all times. If you dont have valid proven reasons for not renewing your travel document on time, you might be listed as an international criminal. This will be a problem for you in your future if you intend to migrate.

You might want to write in or call your Malaysia embassy in the country you are in now, and ask them for help. They may issue you a new passport or write you a letter that explain your situation. Anyhow, you need to call the embassy and give them good reason. Else, you may get arrested when you show up at the airport in Malaysia.
