Christians go to Heaven to be with Jesus until He returns, at which time we will return with Him. When He returns, He will gather all of His people together, both the liviung and the dead;
Mark 13:26-27
26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
Paradise was a temporary place for the righteous dead to go to because even though they had been obedient to God, they were still sinners and were not yet worthy to enter Heaven for their sins had not yet been paid for. This is told in the story of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke chapter 16.
Jesus Himself stated that no one had yet entered Heaven yet when He said;
John 3:13
13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
After Jesus' death and resurrection paid the price of sin, the believing dead were clothed in His righteousness and were made perfect in Him, and they were granted access to Heaven for they were now worthy.
So now when a Christian dies, we are made perfect in Him, and can enter Heaven to be with Him.

The question of what happens after death can be confusing. The Bible is not explicitly clear on when a person will reach their final eternal destiny. The Bible tells us that after the moment of death, a person is taken to Heaven or Hell based on whether he or she had received Christ as his or her Savior. For believers, after death is to be "away from the body and at home with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:6-8; Philippians 1:23). For unbelievers, after death means everlasting punishment in Hell (Luke 16:22-23).
This is where it can get confusing as to what happens after death. Revelation 20:11-15 describes all those in Hell being cast into the lake of fire. Revelation chapters 21-22 describe a New Heaven and New Earth. Therefore, it seems that until the final resurrection, after death a person resides in a “temporary” Heaven and Hell. A person's eternal destiny will not change, but the precise "location" of a person's eternal destiny will change. At some point after death, believers will be sent to the New Heavens and New Earth (Revelation 21:1). At some point after death, unbelievers will be thrown into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:11-15). These are the final, eternal destinations of all people - based entirely on whether a person had trusted Jesus Christ alone for the salvation of their sins.

No waiting, the "Chariot" picks you up and Zippsss (and I mean Zippsss too!) you Straight Up North of Earth (goes through Orion I think) and in a few Instances of Time, lets you Out on Planet Heaven.
If you step out with just a Garment, you will have to Learn some Things befor you can go to the Throne of GOD (renew your Mind, just can't go into the Throne with stinking thinking)
IF you have Already Renewed your Mind (Learned how to Walk in Holiness, in any degree) you will have the Robe of Rightousness on top of the Garment of Salvation and you can go Right into the Throne Room!!!
Wonderful!!!
and MercyFull!!!
EveryBody will Eventually get to go into the Throne Room of GOD Almighty!!!
Hope this helps!

Some go straight to heaven. 1Corinthians 15:51-52
Some rest in their graves awaiting a resurrection. John 5:28-29
The Bible does not speak of any "temporary form of paradise."

If you look at my profile there is a bythebible HP, for some reason Yahoo is blocking the links, so if you are interested the issues below can be found manually.
The condition of the dead as well as the resurrection issue is amply discussed scripturally.

Different denominations have different opinions on this.
The Bible is vague enough that both views (immediately going to Heaven, and waiting until Judgment day) can be supported.
Generally, most Christians believe in immediate salvation, however.

Well, Hayley
the Bible says when we die it's like we have fallen asleep so we wont be aware of the passage of time. The next thing we will be aware of is Jesus bringing us to Himself.
