You have 10 balls, 9 have the same weight and 1 it's slightly different weight (you don't know whether heavier or lighter)..
How do you find the odd one out using only three weighings with a balance?

put three balls on one side of the balance and three on the other. (Divide the weight by 3 so you know the weight of one ball.) If they are equal then you know the odd one out isn't any of those six ball. That leaves you with four ball. Put two on one side and two on the other. Which ever side is heavier or lighter had the odd ball. Put one ball on one side and one on the other and which ever ball weighs more or less is the odd one out.

we assume every balls is one pfund.
we divide them to 2 * finve balls
and weight one of them will be heavier or lighter than 5 pfund and the other will be 5 pfund we take the 5 balls for the heavier or lighter one.
and divid them to 2 and 3 balls and weight the 3 balls
here they will be 3 pfund in this case we have 2 balls weight one of them because
it will be one pfund or heavier or lighter than one pfund.
