My calender says 2007. That means 2007 years from when Jesus Christ was born.

I am reminded every day of all the wonders of God because I do a morning scripture study. I love starting my day with the Word of God. But if you are looking to make fun of us because we can't prove to you there is a God then your wrong.

The REASON we can't prove to you there is a God is because God wants it that way. If God was here telling us what to do then how could we show him by faith that we are willing to choose Jesus over the world. IF God was right here, we could not practice PERFECT faith in him. However we do have the Holy Ghost to guide us. The Holy Ghost if VERY real and the power a Christian is give to overcome is very real.

If you really want to challenge some one why not talk to a missionary?

I shall inform you that the First Amendment gives everyone freedom of speech and forbids a state religion. You cannot overturn it, however much you may want to do so. Atheists, agnostics, Hindus, Budddhists, Moslems, Jainists, Taoists, Shintoists, etc. have as much right as you do to express their opinions on YA. Washington overthrew such tyrants as you, who say their belief is the only one allowed here or anywhere else. Jesus was born in 3 or 4 BCE scholars now say. This year should be year 2003 or 2004 to be technical. Of course, there is doubt that Jesus really existed. I use a Chinese calendar that says this is Year 4705. I was brought up by a mother whose father was a pastor, and I took Bible History in college. I want to help people to learn truth. I can prove there are no gods, because so-called "holy books" are filled with contradictions and ignorance of science and reality. If a god created the universe, he would not be so ignorant about it. Con men who invented gods to gain power and money are the ones who are ignorant, and it is they who claim to speak for gods. If I want to challenge anyone, I can talk to my oldest sister, but she is ignorant and insults me outrageously displaying hypocrisy, as is common among Christians.

Technically, 2007 means 2008 years since people began counting AD time based on an estimate of when Jesus was born, since it started on 0, so the second year was 1 AD, the third year was 2 AD, etc.

"My calender says 2007. That means 2007 years from when Jesus Christ was born."

actually, no it doesn't. it means 2007 years from the date that christian scholars working in the sixth century AD estimated that christ was born, and it was not in common use until about the eighth century. prior to that, other calendars were used. in the western world, various roman calendars were used.

you seem to be saying that god wishes to hide. why? is he shy? how can one make a choice to follow something if there is no way of even knowing that it exists? come on now, that's silly.

Atheism, by definition, is a reaction to a religious position. R&S is the natural home for Atheists.

Atheists and other secularists are people too. We have interests. It so happens that one of my academic areas is Religion. I know the subject. So I think that I, secularist that I am, can intelligently contribute to the discussion of this subject. I also contribute Y/A's Books category and occasionally the Genealogy category. Religion is just another subject.

Personally, I do not care what you believe. If what you believe does not hinder you in the projects you want to participate in, good luck to you and/or godspeed.

We wouldn't if many religious people wouldn't have the obsession trying to push their stone-age non-sense that they see as "the holy truth" to the people who don't believe it. Even this isn't enough yet. In the end they want the whole world to believe their doctrine, but as there are 100's of them, this is not going to happen, and it will result in disaster when one of them gets hold of the wrong buttons.
Atheists see religions as dangerous doctrines, based on ancient mythology, that resembles a dictatorial regime, used as political and empowerment tool, and many of these doctrines preach violence to those who don't believe (and who is going to decide about that?).

I am an atheist.

I participate in this forum because I have an interest in religions. I do not need to believe in a religion to participate. Do you need to have HIV to participate in discussions about HIV?

Why do you think your god wants to play hide and seek? Isn't that a child's game? Why would your god expect people to disengage their rational thought and accept on faith?

I have talked to mormon missionaries to the point they have stopped coming to my door.

I sometimes look in R & S in case there is an interesting question to write about. I don't troll, even if others may, but in view of number of questions that begin, "Atheists... ," it's hard to justify the idea that we should stay out of this section.

Perhaps you and I have different ideas about what it means to troll. I define it as posting questions more to anger others than to provoke a thoughtful response, and your question actually treads very close to this precipice. As for talking with Mormon missionaries, I have no interest in teenagers who presume to instruct their elders.

We have a right to be here as much as you.If the reason is you can't prove god exists because he wants it that way.How do you know you are not being fooled by the devil? How do you really know the Holy ghost is not a demon sent by the devil?

Just because someone is an atheist doesn't mean that they don't want to understand your faith or why you believe it.

But an atheist or anyone else who attempts to force their beliefs on others or more egoistical still, try to convince people that "their" faith is THE faith are misguided and ill mannered.

Believe what you believe and let everyone else believe what they beleive. It is God's job to judge, not yours.
