We have a growing skunk population and they like going under our back porch. The dog has been sprayed once, and I can smell that some one near by has been sprayed this morning. One of my 3 cats is still outside. It might have been him.

All pets accounted for, none sprayed (this time). Smell is fading, so I don't think the skunk has stayed under the house. But I don't want them to return.

The best way I know of is to sprinkle a box of mothballs (not the crystals, you need the balls) under the porch. The smell will keep them away.
Unless you can block the entrance to under there, this will be the only way to be absolutely sure they're not going to take up residence.

Sweet Pea my russian blue would have been so upset had I run off the skunks, so it never really crossed my mind and I lived in an area highly populated by skunks! Although I didn't have a dog around that was getting sprayed (that would have posed a problem). I almost was sprayed a few times, chasing a train of skunks with sweet pea at the end like the caboose but they never sprayed her.
She had some special deal cut with the opossums too. I found that out when I discovered that sweet pea would wait until we were sleeping and then lead the little family of rodents into the kitchen and guard them as they ate all of the cat food.
Sweet Pea was a female russian blue (mix probably)

I had this happen when I had an outside cat. First I just had one skunk that came up for the cat food. Well that skunk had babies and she brought them up as well. I called animal control and they set traps. All were caught in about 3 days and were moved to a better area. I wouldnt leave out poison. You could poison your own cat or someone elses. Animal control should help you for free ;)

Keep a radio running all the time for animals to hear. also sprinkling un brewed coffee grounds ( the cheapest will do) around the foundation of your house.
I was taking my shower the other night at midnight and saw what I thought was the neighbor's cat stroll by- when my eyesight adjusted i realized it was a wood-pussy ( a mostly white skunk with a black line down the back). I froze until she passed.

Skunks like to be near people, and in some areas just about every home has skunks underneath, or nearby in a sheltered area. Dor Co. Michigan is such a place.

Try Moth balls drop about your property where you do not want them at. This generally keeps them at bay. You will need to put them into some sort of breathable pet proof container or in areas where your own pets cannot get to them.

1. Block any area that they get under, porch, house, garage and storage sheds.
2. Remove all food that they may be feeding on, trash, garbage, pet food.
3. Put out mouse/rat poisons to rid the area of all food sources
Once living space and foods are removed they will go else where.
