I was 16 or 17 when I got mine taken out. It's been a long time but I do remember not being able to swallow at all. Ice chips can help. You can take whatever your favorite drink is and freeze it in cubes then blend it. Just put a few pieces in your mouth at a few time and as it melts it is a tiny amount to swallow. So your not really getting as much at a time, but since it has been in your mouth while it is thawing you have the satisfaction as if you had drank more.

Now you have to make yourself put a few chips in often because since you are not getting as much down your body needs the fluids, so you have to force yourself even though the inside of your mouth may feel satisfied.

Start with freezing koolaid or plain water, then as you tolerate more you can add frozen juices. You probably need to stay away from high acidic juices like Orange Juice while your throat is still healing.

This will also help if you do it because the cold soothes, and the more you do it the better it starts healing and you can progress to other fluids like jello, soups, etc...

i had mine taken out a few yrs ago.
there is nothing really that makes it easier till you heal up more.
you can see if your dr can give you an rx for liquid condine or a liquid pain killer that can numb you some.
i remember the pain being really intense and like you said my body didn't want to swallow- you just have to force it and grimace at the pain.
i soooo know what you are going thru!!
remember to stay away from dairy products or they will give you a mucusy film that irritates you even more.
i did a lot of soups that week till i felt better. than i did soft meals like noodles and eggs after that
and as much as it sucks you have to eat things like chips to break up the scabs in the back- that hurts but it's a must do
