I had recently read that the stones might have been made from a primitive form of concrete made with crushed/ground limestone. Any news on this?

It's definitely natural limestone.

1. If you actually go there and walk up to the face of the blocks, you'll see (especially if you are a geologist) that they are natural limestone blocks.

2. They found the quarry where the blocks were made. Chemical analyses have been performed that prove (as in forensic proof for a court of law) the limestone in the quarry is the same as the blocks.
