...that will take place when Pontius Pilate stands before the judgement seat of Christ ? How would you contrast that with the Biblical account of Pilate's examination of Jesus ?

Your sharings, please ?

Actually, Berean, I often feel quite sorry for Pilate.

Yes, he was gutless, and under pressure, he backed down from doing the right thing. But how often have I, as a spirit-indwelt Christian (who should know better) done the same ?

I would quite like to think that he did get saved. I wouldn't wish the Lake of Fire on anyone.

Blessings, CP.

Well, the Bible doesn't say what happened to Pontius Pilate after the trial and crucifixion. However, the whole reason that he gave into the Jews' demands was because his power was waning. History records that fact.

So, I'm sure that left poor Pilate feeling older than his years. He probably died consumed by guilt at sentencing an innocent man to death. But the question is...did he die before he made peace with Jesus? That, we don't know. I think perhaps he did.

I hadn't really given it much thought, to be honest. But we just don't know, do we? It might be that Pilate did make peace, so he's forgiven, and able to enter into heaven. Or maybe he didn't. It would be interesting to see, though, wouldn't it?

I make no excuses for Pontius Pilate, but as a Roman, he was dealing with what the Romans felt was a troublemaker, not the Son of God!
He played his part in the Grand Scheme of things, as did Judas Ascariot, and Adam and Eve! If Judas had not betrayed Jesus, there never would have been a 'trial' in the first place! And Jesus could not have made His Supreme Sacrifice!
If Adam and Eve had not agreed to take 'The Fall' for everyone else, they would still be in the Garden of Eden, and we wouldn't exist!
It is not our place to judge any of these people, only God can! And as they were just doing what they 'took on to do' why would He punish them for doing so, and following His instructions!

Bet Pilate is already thinking about it. But there is a legend that Pilate became a Christian, through influence of his wife.
Though there is no historical proof, that would be great.

Just thought of something. There is a novel called, "Pontius Pliated" which is very good. I believe it is by, "Paul Mair". (Though the name is just a guess. Its been over 25 years since I read it.

The novel is excellenct. And throughly researched. Probably about as accurate as a non-fiction book can be. (EVERY personal name in the book, is an actual person. Though details have been "fleshed out")

...theBerean

Note Added. There is also a legend that he was exiled and then went insane, thinking that he executed the Son of God.
Also, that his wifes name was Claudia/Procula. (Funny, the stuff that sticks in your head. lol)

I hadn't thought of this but it's an excellent point! I don't think Jesus will be as sardonic as Pilate was, though.

I once heard a young man pray fervently for Saddam's conversion. At first I was outraged but then it hit me--that is just exactly what Jesus emant when he said "love your enemies and pray for those who despitefully use you".

Not many of us are capable of that in reality, I think. And can you imagine if S. had converted--what worse hell can you imagine than realising the terrible weight of what you've done?

When you boil it down, isn't Pilate the quintessential unbeliever? Consider this: his spouse was a believer and certainly she shared the gospel with him. So how sad and ironic was it that, when Jesus stood before him and said "Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice," Pilate still wondered "what is truth?" ! We have seen this pattern repeat itself again and again since that time: unbelievers hear the truth, yet reject it because they don't have spiritual ears to hear. They love their sins too much and are willing to pay any price to continue in them.

I anticipate Pilate will hear the same judgement all other unbelievers will hear when Jesus sits on His White Throne: "I preached the need for repentance to you through My servants many times; in fact, there were even times when I preached to you directly. You knew what the truth was, yet you willingly turned from it and went your own way. Because you rejected Me, you also rejected the Father. Since I never knew you, depart from Me."

Hopefully he's had a great deal of time to repent, and will gain the Kingdom, thus demonstrating the power of mercy at first hand. Shalom
